  The Las Canelas Group

Florentina Mamani, 28, is a member of the Las Canelas communal bank which, in turn, is a member of the Panamericana focal center. She is from the city of El Alto and she tells us that her girlfriends invited her to join Pro Mujer.

She has been a blanket weaver for over 10 years and she plans to use the requested funds to buy raw materials like wool.

The other members of this communal bank are involved in a variety of commercial activities, such as: quinoa sales, blanket braiding, sale of “aguayos” (colorful cloths used to carry babies).

Both businesses enable her to support her family's basic needs. With the loan of NGN 70,000, she plans to expand her hat and beads business, which is booming. She hopes to increase her earnings in this enterprise in the long run and be able to better provide for her child 's education. For a variation on a theme, how can you not love this hat?

  Babies in Hats!!!

Sonia, 23, lives with her partner and their beautiful son. They live in Quimbiri, located in the lovely jungle near Cuzco, in their own house. Sonia recognizes that it is not easy to get ahead financially when you have a child. She was thinking about studying for a career, but when her son was born, she began working in agriculture.

Her first product was cocoa, and the sales provided enough money to cover the household expenses. Today, Sonia produces and sells cocoa, coffee, and corn. She has made a place for herself in the market, as her customers are very satisfied with the quality of the products. Sales are up compared with last year, thanks to the help of her husband who works together with her as a team. They also hire workers to help at harvest time.

Normally, they sell their product in the markets of their community at a competitive price. Their future plans are to remodel their house with good materials, with the goal of improving the quality of life for their family. This is Sonia’s second loan with MFP, and she promises to faithfully meet her obligations. With this loan, she will invest in more farmland, to increase agricultural production.

Ms. Minata Coulibaly is 32 years old, married, and the mother of five children. She lives with her husband and children in a nuclear family in the Médine district of Ségou (4th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Trained as a higher healthcare technician, she very soon started off in commerce with her mother, who used to sell condiments. She has had several years of apprenticeship at her mother's side until her marriage.

Minata ran several revenue-generating businesses, such as selling fruit juices, ice water, and pâtées, before opting for the clothing business. She has been in this business for four years now and enjoys a large customer base and great recognition.

With plans to address customer demand, she turned toward Soro Yiriwaso, with which she has been associated for 54 months. After three solidarity loans and three individual loans, all repaid, she is on her fourth individual loan. She plans on using it for buying 50 meters of riche damask fabrics and 10 bolts of wax pagnes (colorful West African cloth). She stocks up locally in Ségou. Accepting cash or credit, she sells to a customer base composed of women and men.
Minata hopes to make a monthly profit of 75,000 francs CFA that will enable her to meet certain expenses (paying the electricity bill, soap, and medicines). Her ambition is to build a house.

Woman making hats!
http://www.kiva.org/lend/217235

Saodat Rahimova is 47 years old. She is married and has a daughter. For more than 20 years, Saodat has had her own business. She embroiders the national skull-cap for men and women. Saodat produces various types of the national skull-cap, so she has many clients and usually there are many orders. Her daughter helps her with the business.

Saodat sells the skull-caps to her own customers, who are always in expectation of the new goods. Thus her business is stable, allowing Saodat to contribute significant income into the family budget.

Today, Saodat requests 7500 Somoni. The loan is required for purchasing the fabrics for embroidering the national skull-cap. Saodat thanks all supporting her and promises to pay the loan on time.
