This is one of the more impressive hats worn by women in my loan portfolio, that's for sure.

A Panama Top Hat?  Hi

In addition to her gorgeous hat, I love Felicitas' meditative-like pose.  Sitting meditation?

Cristina, 46, is a widow and has 6 children. She is a craftsperson. She is a strong, hard working woman. She buys crafts from other suppliers in the area and takes them to Cusco to sell. This way she can ask for a better price and not have too much competition from the locals since this town is virtually the source of craftspeople. She is asking for funds to buy all sorts of crafts and weavings at wholesale.

She is a member of the “NUEVA VICTORIA-CHINCHERO” (Chinchero New Victory) communal bank located in Chinchero district, Urubamba province, Cusco department. It is located 45 minutes from the city.

She avails herself of this forum to express her gratitude for the loan as well as to pledge to repay it in a timely fashion.

Marleni, 37, is married and has 4 children. She is a National Representative of Andean Peoples. She is knowledgeable of fine art and has won many awards for her textiles. She has been photographed and documented in various documentaries and international films taking her art processes to the big screen. For them it is not at all usual to see themselves on television. But this small and picturesque town of Chinchero is magic and attracts thousands of tourists to its small squares and whimsical lanes. The pure air and warm smiles of the locals are, without a doubt, the best that Chinchero has. For these reasons very important personages have often been seen strolling through town.

Marleni is very modest with no luxuries. She smiles happily at life wishing the best for her town. She continues to be one of its most outstanding artisans. She continues taking English classes and also wants to buy supplies and invest in the workshop that represents her community. She is asking for funds to buy natural detergents, dyes, wools and other materials and for her English classes.

She is a member of the “NUEVA VICTORIA-CHINCHERO” communal bank which is located in Chinchero district, Urubamba province, Cusco department, 45 minutes from the city.

She avails herself of this forum to express her gratitude for the loan as well as to commit to repay in a timely fashion.

Adilbek Kazybekov is the young father of two beautiful daughters: five and three years old. He aims for a prosperous future for them, and does his best to achieve this goal. After graduating from Agricultural college, for four years, he has sold jeans at the market in the capital city Bishkek, where he met Sablat, his wife. They decided to move to Tokmok city, near the capital, and settle there. This couple went through hard times, with the lack of a home and money, but didn’t give up.

Sablat, in order to support her family, began to sew Kyrgyz national traditional clothes – “chapan” and “chepken” and embroider them with ornamental patterns. This activity started to bring permanent profit and customers increased. It led Adilbek to master the profession of seamstress - he bought one more sewing machine and helped his wife in this business. They worked hard and managed to enlarge it through raising floating capital, purchasing additional equipment, and hiring workers. With the revenues from these activities, Adilbek bought a small flat for his family and a used car.
Now Adilbek wants to take a loan of 70,000 KGS to purchase fabrics and thread and expand the range of products in his shop. He hopes that this will help him to increase revenues. In the future, Adilbek dreams of buying a big house for his family and to see more children in it.

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009
