Carmelo Zambrana in his Rancher Hat

Don Carmelo Zambrana is a small farmer in the district of El Banco in town of El Rama. He is married Sra. Justina Flores and they have four children. Santos (age 42), Abelardo (age 40) and Francisca (age 30) are all married and have their own families. Darvis (age 28) is the youngest child and the only who still lives at home. He helps his father work the land and look after the farm.

Don Carmelo is requesting his fourth loan so that he can plant rice and sell it within three months. This will help him generate revenue to improve the living standards for himself and his family. He has the necessary experience since he has been working the land for more than 40 years. He also grows corn, bananas, beans, and tubers. In addition, Santos raises livestock and currently has a few small animals that provide daily income to sustain his family. He is known as an individual who is hardworking, honest, and responsible in all of his commitments.

Nicaragua, end of term loan [Dec. 2010], no currency risk.  $350 $325 more and Don Carmelo can rev up that motorcycle to go inspecting his rice fields while Darvis keeps an eye on the corn, bananas, beans, tubers....

Codou Diouf of Senegal - http://www.kiva.org/lend/187929

Codou Diouf is 41 years old. She is a widow and lives with her three children for whom she is the sole support. She has been a member of the Thieckene “Banc Villageois” loan group for 8 ˝ years, and is quite experienced with regard to credit loans and her area of activity.

She is a fruit vendor; she buys her produce in fields and orchards for resale in local markets. Her profits enable her to take care of her offspring and meet her own personal needs.

Oh, never mind all that.  Look at that HAT!

Suvineetha is a 45-year-old married woman living with her kids, 16 years and 13 years old. Last year her husband went abroad, so she manages her business herself. Suvineetha has a work place where she weaves hats for local customers. She started this business two years ago, and she is very enthusiastic about it. She cooperates well with others and is always in a positive mood.

Suvineetha has requested a 40,000 LKR loan from BRAC Sri Lanka to purchase raw materials for her business. She is grateful to BRAC Sri Lanka because of the financial support it provides her. Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting this Sri Lankan loan!

14 months loan from BRAC Sri Lanka (4*), currency risk possible
