Trouble is, Jane, all of my best photos are of "identifiable people" - that's what makes them, in my eyes, "best photos."

No kidding Glenda!!!  You are absolutely right.  And you take great photos!   Thumbs Up  (Would you have any "general market" pictures of "vendors?")

Thanks Tom for sharing your photos.  Nice pics by the way.

If anyone out there has any photos that you think can be used, please post them in this thread.
Thanks!

One option is to buy stock photos.  Thoughts?

I read this in a recent "Kiva Stories from the Field"...
Quote
TLM only posts group loans to the Kiva website, so visits for borrower profiles take a very long time. After driving an hour or more to reach a village, they often spend an hour waiting for the group to assemble. Once the group assembles, they take an individual picture of each member. They then organize the clients for the group photo to be published on the website. After the pictures have been taken, they take the time to explain to the clients what Kiva is and that their photo will be viewed by millions of people. Each group member must then sign a release waiver. After all members have signed, the loan officer interviews the group leader to get information to write a compelling borrower profile. The whole ordeal from start to finish can take up to 5 hours for one single loan on Kiva!

I know in the past I have read other comments about the borrowers signing these waivers.  I don't understand now after a year of signing, why does Kiva still say there are only a dozen we can use?

Jan,

I think that there is a difference between that and explaining that their image would be used to sell calendars.

Maybe this needs to be a topic of discussion for upcoming chat.

I am wondering how Whole Foods' non-profit microfinance foundation manages to get waivers, and Kiva cannot seem to do so.  They have a calendar of borrowers which is rather nice.  It comes with coupons in it as well.

I scoured my Peru photos to find some that might have related to Kiva entrepreneurs or their businesses, looked at least halfway decent, and did not have identifiable people featured.  Here are three that might work; click on a photo to open a larger version in a new browser window.  These are by no means my favorites nor best photos, but using those criteria it's the best I can offer just now.

"BUDDING ARTISTS"
A suggestion has been made to see if we have any KF artists here at the forum who would be willing to do a sketch/drawing/simplistic painting based on one of the colorful loan pictures and descriptions found on the Kiva website.  By using an "artistic drawing" it would not "photographically identify" the entrepreneur but it would allow us to represent the borrows for the Kiva calendar.  If you would be willing to give this a try, please post here or send a PM to Colette (cpbailey) or myself (mejane).

We have about 5 or 6 photos that we can use for the calendar so we would need about 6 or 7 "drawings."  You do not have to be a professional to volunteer.

Thanks!

Photoshop can do renderings - make it look like a watercolor or drawing.
