If a profit were built into the potential, then it could be used to support the Fellows program for example.

I think Rebecca was considering a small profit margin for 2 reasons.........
1-seed money for the next calendar project
2-money to be used for future KF projects (ones of charity - not for KF profit for the members)

There are some costs for producing this and we need seed money to get it off the ground.

The other KivaStore items generate profit for the first 10 months of the year.  This is sufficient to cover the annual stocking of calendars by Sep-Oct.

I will be back in Norway on Saturday and will then get in touch with Fiona or someone else and see what they have to say in regards to donations and releases, as opposed to sales.  If anyone has already done this will you please send me a PM so I don't repeat someone elses questions..

Since photos for the calendar are an issue every year, the committee this year has an idea for an "art calendar" for the year 2011.  Instead of photos, art representations from students would be used.  This negates the "yearly struggle" of photo consents, releases, etc.  In order to obtain these "art representations" we would need to sponsor some sort of incentive/contest for the students using for example gift certificates.  This would be the "seed money" spoken of earlier.  Also, if a small amount of profit were raised there have been many suggestions previously for the proceeds.

This is a good thought, and it leads to a late idea: instead of photos of clients, how about photos of some Kiva fellows in the field, which depict their locations without showing identifiable clients? In fact, you could solicit them to sumbit photos of themselves, or photos that they have taken. I imagine this would make issues such as releases and copyright permission much more straightforward. Surely at least some of them would be willing to contribute their photos for such a project, and it could become a constant source of new photos for the future.

Hope this is helpful, even if so late.

What about a picture of the staff at the GHAPE office when they received their new MIS information?  There was a nice photo in one of the threads.  Getting permission from them would certainly be easier (I would think.)  A nice writeup of the GHAPE group and their philosophy would be interesting.

Also, maybe we could use ONE photo from Kiva that showed a store without the entrepreneur.  We have had several lately.  The write up could be something like "this is representative of a business in (country).  Many entrepreneurs operate these businesses out of their homes" etc. something like that.  And maybe give some facts of the region in which the store is operated.

If we had one Kiva fellow pic, one "empty" store, and one GHAPE picture it would fill in what we need for the 12 months.  (We have 9 pics now that we could MAKE work.  It is not a matter of the pictures making the calendar what it is, it is a matter of making the pictures work FOR the calendar as the supply is so extremely limited -  even after 2 years.)
