I know there have been a couple of occasions when highly valued and respected members have requested account deletion

who determines who one of these people would be???  another ambiguous issue for me.

Thanks, Peter.

There is - as far as I can tell - no risk whatsoever that someone who wants to leave the forum and have her/his account deleted as a symbol of this separation (it doesn't really do harm if the account stays intact, though) is kept here by the moderating team. We will honour every deletion request at least when we are satisfied it's final.

Well, let me put it like that, Henry... when you (or any other member) request(s) account deletion you should be prepared to get just that. In certain cases, we may decide to wait a while for you to re-consider or you may get a PM or e-mail from us first that asks for confirmation and/or offers you different solutions (like a consented ban that would leave the account intact and can be lifted again later if the member wished to return - account deletion on the other hand is final in the sense that the member would have to re-apply and the continuity with former posts etc. is destroyed).

I would be fine with a general "deletion requests are approved right away" policy, as well, but I don't think it's necessary or beneficial.

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.
