Hi all,
I am new here, and not sure how this all works yet, but it was nice to see something good on the news tonight. Like many others, before tonight, I had not heard of KIVA. Finally a place where I could do something and feel like I might make a difference. After the story aired I went directly to my computer and headed for the webpage. I must of been one of many as the Kiva loan site was temporarily down.
I havent had a chance to actually see how it works and or how easy it will be to use.
It will be nice to be able to see where and what your loan/donation will be used for.
How great is it that $25.00 can make a difference in someones life.
You are not expected to make a payment every week or month, you choose how much you can spend and who it is given to. I am excited with the whole concept and as soon as the site is back up will be looking into making a loan.
I hope I dont sound like a wacko, really I am not.  Grin

You seem real normal for the folks around here....  We're all a bit 'into' Kiva.

Welcome. To everyone new. Come on in and make yourselves at home.

If you want your first loan to be a real example of a modern go getter, I suggest this person: http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=11017

Welcome.

The good feeling you get doing something good that's going to last is plenty addicting.

---Ramon & everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know I finally made my first loan last night. It went to a 38 year old that sells kitchen supplies in Iraq. It was hard making a choice, I wanted to give to everyone. I looked tonight and it seems that his loan total was funded. That is so awesome!! I am sure that I will do more in the future, maybe not everyone, I do have limits.
It just made me feel good to give even if it was only a little.

That is true. Now your job is to spread the word to those who didn't see the show, although like most Kiva fans I'm sure its already on your mind  Wink

Have you seen the Star Trek Museum in Second Life?  (you can get a starfleet uniform there)

I'm not that addicted to Kiva. Sometimes I can go hours without looking at the site.

I read in the paper the other day that a local lady expects to  make at least $150,000 this year from her virtual clothing boutique!!!  Shocked Shocked Shocked

(I don't know if she plans on lending any of that through Kiva.)  Wink

Must be Linden dollars. You need to sell a lot of stuff: on average, SL clothing goes for what-- L$ 100 each of so? US$150K is about L$400K, so she must sell 40,000 dresses per year or over 100 per day.

Even L$150,000 would be a lot of dresses to sell.

I wish her good luck and fortune...

The difference in what loans were needed four hours ago and what is needed now is stunning. The rate at which loans were fulfilled today is truly a blessing!

I'm going to learn how to make clothes in SL... Great product to sell. You only have to make it once.
