Yes, there's absolutely nothing not to like about Pro Mujer, one of Kiva's best Field Partners, if not the very best.

What's not to like is Kiva's determination to parade its credentials as a "neutral marketplace" and promote its simple-minded "survival of the fittest" philosophy by flooding the site with loans (5135 currently), and refusing to give any kind of prominence or fair crack of the whip to expiring loans.  Meanwhile, one third of the valuable "featured loans" space at the top of the "lend" pages goes to waste - "All Arab Youth Loans are funded".

When these Pro Mujer loans expire, as many of them probably will despite the best efforts of LLL and others, it wouldn't surprise me too much if management at Pro Mujer comes to the conclusion that posting loans on Kiva is a wasted effort, and withdraws from its partnership with Kiva.  The same will go for other first class Field Partners, like Fundacion Paraguaya and a whole host of others.

I emailed Kiva about the empty Arab youth loans category and the fact that there are now over 1100 agriculture loans on the site (agriculture being one of the categories that was replaced).  The response came back (from a community support intern) thanking me for my thoughts and saying they would be passed along to the "team" for consideration.

With just 16 loans on the site right now, I feel like Pro Mujer is not one of the FPs responsible for the flood of loans.  Wish they did not have to bear the consequences.   Cry

I am heartsick at the thought that loans from Pro Mujer Bolivia are going to expire.  I can't understand this at all.

I added up the total requested amount of all 16 of the current Pro Mujer fundraising loans: $57,700 (for 133 individual borrowers).

IMNSHO, in addition to the large volume of fundraising loans overall and Kiva's seeming inattention to featured categories at the top of the website (along with the "popularity" sort skewing what's presented to lenders on the first page), it's also a shame that a $49,525 loan to Martin Canning has drained so much funding which could instead be completing loans for Pro Mujer borrowers and so many others.

As of 2:30 PM Pacific time there is a "Finish Line Loans" section in the third box of the "Featured Loans" area on the Kiva Lend page.  Perhaps your email was a part of prompting that action.

ETA: Never mind: it takes you to the Amount left sort rather than the expiring soon sort.  How silly.

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009

I'm pretty sure that at least one Pro Mujer loan will expire, because there is one scheduled to expire only 2 hours after the one I am currently working on.  And it still would need a whole lot of money to avoid expiring.  More than one can reasonably expect to raise in 2 hours on Kiva.

Last time I checked, there were over 4,000 free trials remaining.  Too bad enough new users can't be recruited in time to fund the outstanding Pro Mujer loans.
