Hi there. I'm new to Kiva..last night I made 3 loans of $25 plus a 15% donation. This was processed by PayPal, but the sum of $86.25 has appeared in my Kiva Portfolio as "Available Kiva credit" - my loanees have not appeared. Does anyone know why? The loan I made before as a trial appeared immediately.

Many thanks

Hi  Dejabe and welcome to kivafriends.
Occasionally there is a delay between paypal relaying to kiva that the money has been paid and disappearing loans happen.  Your loans probably stayed in your basket for awhile after but not knowing to look you did not see that.  The only thing you can do now is to go back and relend.  Hopefully they 3 loans you were interested in are still available.  If not there are many others to choose from today!

Sorry for that happening, I know for new lenders it can be a bit confusing.  Just be assured it doesn't happen very often.  And just as a future double check,  you should see the loans you have lent to on the thank you page after paying.  If not check you basket to see if the transaction has gone through and the loans have indeed left your basket.  If for some reason they do not they will stay in there for a period of time while kiva gets notified of the money coming, in which case it will show up as credit as it did in this case and you can complete your transaction with available credit.

Hi dejabe,

and welcome to KivaFriends - I am sorry that your first experience with Kiva has been a less than ideal one.

What (probably) happened is this: Paypal sometimes takes a little more time than usual to confirm the transaction with Kiva. If Kiva doesn't hear from Paypal within a certain time, they won't go forward with your transaction. Upon (late) receipt of the Paypal confirmation, the loan amount is then deposited in your Kiva account as "Kiva credit". You can use this Kiva credit for your next transaction on Kiva - and the good part is that then Paypal isn't needed so that the same thing cannot happen again.

Maybe "your" 3 loans are still available?

By the way, this issue is one of several reasons why I always make my loans out of Kiva credit - I simply add it beforehand (go to "My Portfolio", and in the same box that says "Available Kiva credit" you should see a link "Add").

Best wishes and happy lending,
Wolfgang.

EDIT: I see Charmaine has been faster... still... Welcome!

Great addition Wolfgang!  I have also started to do this.  Makes life easier it seems.

Thanks..problem solved and loans completed! Good idea to top up credit first, I'll do that from now on.
