Hi, I have my own Kiva account and love it!!  I have a ton of questions about starting a lending team for my
daughter's school- how do you keep classroom's separate,  but under the same team? Can each class have their own kiva credit
account? Does one person have to be responsible for the funds?  I would love to talk with someone who has done this before and might have suggestions or if someone could point me in the
right area of the Kiva friends site to find the info  I can be emailed at djglad@pacbell.net also

Hi and welcome to kivafriends.  There are some regulars here who are teachers and have teams that will probably get in touch with you, but thought I would point out this blog about kiva in the classroom with some links.  http://kivanews.blogspot.com/2009/08/bring-kiva-back-to-school-with-you.html  Hope it is helpful...

One idea may be to set up separate lending accounts for each classroom, but also create a school-wide lending team which each classroom lending account could join.

The school that I helped get involved with Kiva, had one account and two teachers with access to this account and all 10 (K-9) grades loaned through it.  It was a school wide project and different kids were on the 'team' that chose the new loans and presented them for discussion each month, each getting a turn to research the country, the product, or anything that jumped out at them about the loan or the individual and present it to the others.  The team that was choosing for the month had a special lunch time meeting to review the loans, and the kids loved it!  There was a giant bulletin board central in the school where they placed a map of the world and then printed lender images and businesses of each entrepreneur they loaned to around the edges and then used colorful pieces of yarn to mark the image with the part of the world in which each person lived.  To decorate the outer edges of the bulletin board all of the kids cut out an image of their hand, printed their name in the palm, then colored their hands to their own desires.  In the end, it was quite a powerful image.  The teachers also developed curriculum to incorporate Kiva into each classroom.  The kids did a couple of fundraisers and raised thousands of dollars on their own that funded their Kiva project.  This school decided that they preferred anonymous giving, that there wasn't a need for a team or for even attaching the school name to their account, they thought it was a good teaching tool to not have to have your name associated with compassion and generosity.  No accolades or competition required.

In the end, we will conserve only what we love.
We will love only what we understand.
We will understand only what we have been taught.
