P.S.  I'll contact Kiva about all the bugs in there.

My email to Kiva:

Quote
I see that Kiva is no longer excited about seeing businesses grow.  Hmmm.

Anyway, can the bugs in the new disbursal email be fixed.  (I assume it is still the disbursal email.  I haven't received a similar one for loans which are funded, but not yet disbursed, so I assume it isn't a "100% funded" email.)

1) Amount should have "USD$" in front of the figure.  (Not just "$" as that could be ambiguous.)

2) ....

3) Put commas between people's names.  Or put them on separate lines as a "list" of some sort.

4) "Over the months of this loan" sounds terrible.  It sounds as if you meant to say "Over the xx months of this loan" but didn't know what value to replace the "xx" with.  (And, given that there are various values that COULD be used for "xx", I can understand why you DIDN'T put a value in.)  Change the wording.

5) "collecting repayments from this entrepreneur" is incorrect in the case of this loan.  It should be "collecting repayments from THESE entrepreneurS" or "collecting repayments from this GROUP OF ENTREPRENEURS".

6) There should be something to say the Finca Peru will send the repayments back to lenders, or that they are collecting the repayments "on your behalf".  At the moment you make it sound like Finca Peru are just going to pocket the money and too bad about the lenders.

Edit:  To remove something that probably shouldn't be mentioned here where it might be seen.

I just decided it was worth USD$25 to see just how funny it will look.

Edit:  Oops - I might not get a chance to find out.  I think the woman in the back corner may have been photoshopped into the pic.  Maybe not.  Bit hard to tell.   Undecided

No, your $25 is safe Ian, the EXIF data on the "orig" file shows that the photo was taken on May 9th and has not been Photoshopped.  The fact that they have been Photoshopped (and when) showed up in the EXIF data on the "orig" files for those two refunded loans.

How appropriate that Ian's completely anonymous lender icon has joined others in funding Anonymous Group.

Here is a screenshot of the profile of someone who you can currently donate to.

I've circled things that seem misleading or unclear to the casual user of Kiva.

Jimerb, I agree that it would be good for you to send that to Kiva customer support as someone already mentioned.  It is good to see things from another perspective, from that of someone perhaps not as familiar with the nitty gritty of the different processes on Kiva.  I remember when I started loaning on Kiva, things were much simpler, or at least it seems that way to me now.  Since the very end of 2007, things have gotten much, much more complex and more difficult to explain to a newbie.  That is why I feel that each lender should try to also find out as much as they can by reading up on as much of the info that is available.  I've recently introduced a friend to Kiva.  I'm trying my best to point out where to find some important info and things.  But I am afraid at times of scaring her with too much information and detail.  I think Kiva is really making efforts toward clarifying things.  But no, I don't think Kiva is perfect.  I feel they still have a lot of work to do and things to iron out so-to-speak.

I hope I never gave anyone the impression that I was talking down to them with another post of mine (I'm not sure where it is anymore, can't remember in which thread I posted it).
