Here is the link to a new petition from Avaaz: http://www.avaaz.org/en/uganda_rights_2/?cl=477873955&v=5389

The petition will be delivered to President Museveni and the parliament at the end of this week by top Ugandan civil society and Church leaders. Pro-death penalty advocates have also planned a march this week, so our voices need to be louder than theirs!

273,374 people have signed in just a few days. The new target is 350,000. Please take one minute of your time and help!

thanks Ramona...

I am always proud to support Avaaz and their petitions...

this is a group that only allows you to sign in one time...

so they truly mean it when they post how many people have signed up...

I truly hope this bill is not passed.  I will mean grief for so many many people.

I got an email from Avaaz today requesting donations to support Ugandans opposing this bill on the ground.  Perhaps some would be interested in donating...

Thanks for  posting the interesting blog Richard.

On a sadder note on Uganda, David Kato  was killed in Uganda, possibly for his activism for Gay rights, although the police say "they have apprehended a robber suspect".

It sounds irresponsible journalism for Uganda Rolling Stone to have published his address in the article.

Here is another way  how you can help - and it is urgent!

http://allout.org/en/brenda/

STAND WITH BRENDA

Brenda Namigadde, a Ugandan lesbian in the UK, faces deportation THIS WEEK back to the life-threatening persecution she fled eight years ago. With David Bahati, the Ugandan politician and author of the notorious "Kill the Gays" legislation, taking an interest in her case, Brenda faces clear and present danger if she’s forced to return.

Will you sign this urgent letter pressuring U.K. Home Secretary Theresa May to stop Brenda’s deportation?

avaaz petition:

According to avaaz, in 48 hours, the Ugandan Parliament may vote on a brutal new law that carries the death penalty for homosexuality.  Thousands of Ugandans could face execution -- just for being gay.
