Hi everybody, this is the first time I have used Kiva friends. Can anyone help with a problem?.
Is there a Kiva field partner in Burundi as we have information on a lady there who has had her arms chopped off by her partner and she wants to work rather than beg in the streets?.She would like a small loan to start a business. If Kiva cannot help has anyone any other suggestions as to how this lady might access financial help?.
It's great to be part of Kiva friends.
                                                 Thanks,
                                                              Dave and Helen.

hi Dave & Helen

Yes, Kiva does not have a partner in Burundi.

I assume you're referring to Francine Nijimbere, whose tragic story has hit the newswires again this week, having first done so a couple of years ago.   I expect you've seen this week's report: http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportId=87960 (and Reuters and many other sources), and the Feb 2008 report http://allafrica.com/stories/200802260603.html

I notice the latest reports don't refer to the initiative of the Anglican church in Canada last year, to secure medical treatment for Francine.  See http://www.pwrdf.org/stories/all-stories/stories/?no_cache=1&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=531
(because of the square brackets in the URL there, you'll need to copy the whole thing and then paste into browser address field)

I haven't traced the Canadian end of the story any further than that June 2009 report.

Thanks Allan,
This makes the story of what happened much clearer.
