Hi,

certainly nothing special and nothing new - and far too short for my taste (limitations by the editor) - but maybe still remotely interesting to some:

http://www.inwent.org/ez/articles/166591/index.en.shtml (English)

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

An excellent, concise, and caring summary of Kiva and its success and challenges, and a clear introduction to microfinance overall.  Very well done, Wolfgang!

Wolfgang, our hero  Kiss

It was quite long enough for me... and I think you told the story perfectly.  Simple enough to show my new lending friends with just a hint of the behind the scenes complexity.

I liked your final references and the offering of links.

I would be interested to know who the intended audience was for your article... it doesn't appear to be "in the news" so is this an internal newsletter of some sort?

well done, I intend to borrow freely.

Embarrassed  Thanks, everyone - you are indeed too kind!

Jan,

the article is published (online and in print) in the February issue of E+Z/D+C.

Quote
D+C Development and Cooperation
is a monthly publication. The journal is funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and commissioned by InWEnt (Capacity Building International). However, the journal does not serve as a governmental mouthpiece. Our mission is to provide a credible forum of debate, involving governments, civil society, the private sector and academia at an international level. D+C is the identical twin of E+Z Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit, the leading German language publication on development issues. D+C and E+Z share the same content.

Intended audience (apart from KivaFriends Wink ) are people (mostly located in Germany and Europe) interested in "development issues" in general and mostly familiar with the general concept of microfinance but (surprisingly often, I noticed) not with internet platforms like Kiva. I was lucky insofar as the responsible editor was planning an issue focusing on microfinance anyway when I first contacted him in November 2009.

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

Excellent, Wolfgang, absolutely excellent   Thumbs Up
The embarrassing thing is that Wolfgang expresses himself, in English no less, so much better than I do

Thanks a lot, Carien and Geoff -

Geoff: To be honest, I had a lot of help... apart from several people proofreading the German or English versions (among them two great KFs - thanks again!), a professional translator paid for by E+Z/D+C has basically taken care of the translation from the German original.

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.
