Thank you very, very much, khang! It is really good to learn what it really means (there are some "subtle" differences when compared to the Google version, aren't there?  ).

Yes please post these to the journals.
You know most of the time a vietnamese word has more than 1 meaning. It all depends on the context so it is very difficult to have an acceptable translation using a software.

Hello! I have another Vietnamese journal that needs translation, if our resident translator wouldnt' mind?      I tried to figure it out from the crazy garbled mess Google gave me.... BTW Mekong Plus is my favorite MFI. They work with the poorest of the poor in VN.

first of all, thanks again for the translations.

About Mekong Plus not posting as much as before - maybe this will change in the foreseeable future? In all their latest (surprisingly: English) journals (i.e. 5), they announced that the borrowers will ask for new loans from Kiva lenders.

Hi Wolfgang,
I was told by Mr Bernard K. (head of Mekong Plus) that they have made an agreement with Kiva to reduce their posting. And this was last summer.
The reason is the cost (in term of time, resources). Since Mekong Plus offers a lot more than micro lending to the community, they cannot afford to spend too much time to satisfy Kiva's requirement (loan profile, update, journal ...etc).
Related to this, i have read somewhere in one of the fellows's notes that in some cases, it takes the MFI loan officer 1 day to write up only 2 journals ( it can take 2-3 hrs to go to the entrepreneur's home)
We all love journal updates but this is a very costly operation for the MFI, especially those who do not charge any interest like Mekong Plus.

Thanks, Khang, for the additional information - very interesting. Yes, I agree that good journals will take their time - and that's a problem especially with very small loans (and even more so if they are interest-free like you say). That's why I am happy with what we get from Mekong Plus (especially when a helpful translator like you volunteers to translate them); I don't think a loan officer should have to visit the borrowers just for writing the journal (they will have to meet up with the borrower to collect the repayments, anyway, and if that's in their office, they can ask a few questions about the progress and base their journals on this - though of course a visit makes sense for monitoring etc.

That may be understandable - especially when there are too few volunteers able to translate Vietnamese profiles - but it's still a pity, especially when it results in this (same source):
