I don't want to come off as horribly cynical, but I noticed today that someone that I loaned to in June is back again this month with virtually the same loan application. I know that loan applicants often get a series of loans over the life of their business, but to go back so quickly for the same loan ($1,200 each) seems unusual to me. Don't they normally pay off one loan before moving on to the next? See: http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=12148http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=13325I guess I also worry about the microloan process becoming so successful that, inevitably, someone is going to try to game the system. I hope this isn't it. Rob

I would notify the Kiva staff about this immediately. I suspect it is just an oversight and was not meant to be listed a second time.

I also noticed a double listing for someone I helped fund earlier this year and brought it up on a post at the Kiva Yahoo group. Loan #1 http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=3555Loan #2 http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=4345I don't recall what the exact reason for the double listing was, but Kiva stopped it and everyone that funded the second loan got a refund. Kind of sad to see it happen again. I wonder how many other double listings have slipped by without notice. Do the MFIs correct the error when they realize they've already loaned money out to that person? Or just give it to someone else who needs a similar amount? Or worse.

The post is acknowledged, however, no resulting post has been noted for remedial action by Kiva or the MFI in question! This is clearly somebody acting out of the norm and not paying attention to what is going on within their own organization! Have no doubt that this will be corrected by those involved! Ed

A Kiva staffer just replied to an e-mail I sent on this matter. It is, thankfully, merely an error. Kiva's response:
"Our partnership coordinator is aware of this technical error, and Kiva is in the process of refunding the loan payments to those who funded the repeat request."
Thank you to the Kiva supporters who replied to my original query.
Best wishes,
Rob

Interesting. The only difference I see is that the refunded one asked for a 24 month term. The newer one is at 18. MFI listing error? If so, I would have just kept the first one (funded by 34 people!) and adjusted the term with a note saying its going to be 18 instead of 24. Or maybe there isn't a way to do that in the system? Strange that they'd have to re-list and basically start from scratch for something that small. Moving this thread to the main Kiva forum
