What we do...

ProFounder is a new crowdfunding platform for U.S. entrepreneurs to raise capital from their communities to start or grow a business.

On our online platform, entrepreneurs can:

  • create a clear, simple, legally compliant pitch (including customized terms) to raise both equity and debt financing up to $1M
  • invite their friends, family members, colleagues, and broader communities to contribute, including those on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks
  • transact online to collect their investments
  • manage their community of supporters, including repaying and rewarding investors, providing regular updates on business progress, and more

Who we are...

We are two women changing the world by empowering entrepreneurs and the communities that support them.

- Jessica Jackely, CEO and Founder

Jess is a cofounder and former chief marketing officer of kiva.org, the world's first peer2peer microfinance platform. Since its launch in 2005, Kiva has raised over $125M of funds, connecting lenders and entrepreneurs in over 191 countries around the world. She graduated from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2007. Jess is a trained yoga instructor, surfer, and refuses to check luggage at the airport.

- Dana Mauriello, President and Founder

Dana was part of starting and running multiple family businesses and has lived, eat, and breathed entrepreneurship for as long as she can remember. She is the master of developing a deep customer understanding and applying this empathy to creating, marketing, and selling outstanding products. She created a unique major in Product Development at Stanford and working on the Corporate Product Innovations team at Estee Lauder creating new product concepts and bringing them to market. She also graduated from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2009, is a champion powerlifter, and die-hard New Yorker.

The ProFounder Mission

"The Crowdfunding Platform for Entrepreneurs"

ProFounder allows entrepreneurs and small businesses raise money from their community in exchange for a share in the upside of the company. Right now, more than ever before, small businesses and startups need funding to start and grow their businesses. We believe we have the solution to the small business credit crisis by engaging the community in helping out the startups they know and love.

Our Products

ProFounder is a new way of crowdfunding startups and small businesses through friends, family, and social network/community involvement online. There is a huge gap and need for funding for startups/small businesses right now and ProFounder has an innovative solution for it.

Our Team

Co-Founded in August by Jessica Jackley (Previously Co-Founder of Kiva, the world's first peer2peer microfinance site) and Evan Reas (previously an investor, entrepreneur and venture capitalist) and Dana Mauriello (previously an entrepreneur with heavy experiences. We are all passionate about entrepreneurship and its transformative power in the world.

We are heavily advised by Cory Ondrejka, Co-Founder of SecondLife and Chris Larsen, Founder and CEO of Prosper.com

Life at ProFounder

Fun! Always-changing environment, traveling to SF and back quite often, but mostly working at our office/house from Palo Alto. This is the extreme end of early stage and we love it ;-). There aren't set hours or "corporate rules"--simply do what is needed to get the job done!

Thanks for your interest in ProFounder! ProFounder provides a set of tools for entrepreneurs to raise investments and support from their communities. We'll help you: tell the story of your business and create a simple, professional fundraising "pitch;" reach out to friends, family members, and your community for investments; collect your funding online; and manage and reward your investors over time.

ProFounder will be open to the public this fall. If you'd like to be among the first to know when that happens, we'd love to stay in touch:

If you'd like to use our site sooner than this, you can apply to be an alpha entrepreneur below. We'll get in touch within a few days to learn more about you.

Subject: ProFounder - The First Look

Dear friend of ProFounder,

Happy Thanksgiving weekend!

These are wonderful days to remind us of the power of friends, family, and community in our lives. We think it's also a great time to to celebrate the vision for ProFounder to harness the power of these individuals to empower entrepreneurs and small businesses. This is what ProFounder is all about.

We're just a few days away from ProFounder's launch to the public this week! Because you've shown an early interest in what we're doing, we'd like to invite you to have a sneak peek at our inaugural group of entrepreneurs here: www.profounder.com/raises. Each business is offering an investment opportunity to the public, and anyone can participate. These are incredible entrepreneurs with big dreams, who have a desire to give back as well. For example, there's Harper Poe of Proud Mary textile designs, who will be sharing part of her revenues not only with investors like you but with Nest, a nonprofit empowering women artisans throughout the world. Or, check out Uncle Clay and Bronson, two incredible people building a House of Pure Aloha and supporting Kanu Hawaii, an innovative nonprofit aimed at making Hawaii a model of environmental sustainability. And there are 10 others as well! We encourage you to check out these first few entrepreneurs, read their stories, and if you feel so inspired, consider investing.

Additionally, we've been quietly helping several other entrepreneurs use the ProFounder platform to facilitate private fundraising rounds, in which entrepreneurs invite just their friends and family to participate and invest. Several have already been successful and many more are on their way. If you know of entrepreneurs who would like to raise money on ProFounder through our private or public fundraising products, please encourage them to sign up on the site.

Thank you for your support!

". . . the current regulatory environment prevents us from pursuing the innovations we feel would be most valuable to our customers, and we’ve made the decision to shut down the company."
