What in the world has happened to Kiva Friends?! It used to be such a lovely place with lots of warmth.
What is extremely sad is that when looking at the old posts of various members, one is sadly reminded of the extraordinary warmth, generosity, goodness, etc. of each and every one of us. We were a group who shared Oli's travels in Africa, the passing of his father, Scott's baby's birth, lending milestones, and so on. We were a group who enjoyed sharing art and literature, etc. And now sadly it has come to this.
I can see the pros and cons of having the option to delete posts. And no matter what side one comes down on, the decision will not please everyone. I don't envy your jobs as moderators. In some ways, the job can be considered a thankless one.
Reflecting on this, in my humble opinion, there's an important reason (though perhaps strange) the posts should be preserved: The older posts serve to remind each one of us who we truly are as human beings, and how we used to be friends who cared about each other. And I truly feel in my heart that it's still there; no one can cut something like that out.
Perhaps, just perhaps, if we each take some time to reflect and look at our old posts, we will remember this.
