Well, Junior Omar said he was going to repay his loan in a month, and by golly, he did! He must have just needed some short-term credit for materials. So, wow: 6 weeks after joining, one of our loans has repaid! It's quite an exciting moment, and I really feel as if we were able to help someone. No Kiva credit yet, though. Does it normally take a few days to register? It just repaid yesterday. smiling, --Diane.

Congrats! I think a month is the shortest term I've ever seen. You really lucked out there. About credit, yeah it seems to take a few days for it to credit back to your account. There is a thread about this somewhere here. I'm also waiting for credit on a loan that made a final payment on July 4th.

Don't worry, Henry: your loans will repay someday, too. And we fully expect a PARTAY when that day comes, complete with confetti!
(PS: My Kiva credit showed up today! Now I have to look around for a worthy recipient of my re-investment....)

A repayment is a nice "shot in the arm" to keep going! It took us more than 6 months to get our first repayment (a little over a week ago). We of course re-loaned it all in a day or two, spreading it out among three loans this time. Maybe having a few of those really short term loans available is a good thing for newbies to start out with and get the kick of a repayment while their attention span is still engaged.

We just got notice of our second repaid loan. I know, it's not quite the same as a first repayment--but it was close. So now We are waiting for all that credit to show up. In the meantime, we get to think about whether we will blow it all in one place or spread it out among a number of loans. You who have a lot more loans than we do, how do you keep "connected" with who the borrowers are and what they are up to. My old brain is having a hard time remembering the details without looking them up.

Maybe having a few of those really short term loans available is a good thing for newbies to start out with and get the kick of a repayment while their attention span is still engaged. That's not a bad idea! I've seen a few profiles that made a loan or two last year and don't have any recent activity. Some of the loans are still paying back, so it's like they want to see if it'll work before they jump in with both feet. And if they're waiting for 12 - 24 months to get paid back.... Maybe Kiva techs can fiddle with the system to recommend shorter term loans to people that have just registered and are clicking around looking for someone to fund. Another way to make it easy to find the shorter loans would be to add a REPAYMENT TERM option to the "Sort By" pulldown menu.

Attorneys? Are you thinking that if Kiva tweaked the system to point newbies toward a short term loan or two (so they get a quick payback and ultimately be willing to invest more into the system long term) it could attract legal attention? Or am I missing something here? *befuddled* ^^^^^^^ but hey, that happens here a lot

I think it just boils down to , whats good for you is good for me is good for a newbie. It's late, i'm not all that clear right now. Everything is equal, if not - i'm calling 1-800-dialasuit kinda thing. (assuming, the newbie did not select the 'guide me to shorties') I could be wrong, i'll check with my attorney!
