Hey guys. The quarter for the Amazon.com affiliate program ended on June 30th and we did $34.32, no doubt thanks to many of you guys who shop at Amazon using the affiliate link I set up in the middle of May.

Originally the plan was to transfer any proceeds to Kiva as a straight donation for operating expenses, but they preferred a Kiva Friends Lender account was set up instead and the funds used for loans. Therefore, check out the new page at http://www.kiva.org/lender/kivafriends Smiley

The first loan was pretty random. $25.00 went to fund Ms. Consuelo Vasquez who needs $750 for a grocery store. No one had funded her yet so we're kicking things off for her listing. I was going to jump on fredr1c's person in need that he posted about here, but you guys piled on quick and got her funded! It's all good though. The rest ($9.32) was donated to Kiva on the page before checkout where they ask for 10% for their operating expenses.

Anyway, the latest Amazon quarter started on July 1st. If you'd like to help out, just buy something at Amazon using the Kiva Friends affiliate link for credit.

http://www.amazon.com/?&tag=kivafrie-20

I'm hoping we can do enough for at least 3 loans next time around because we're starting at the top of the quarter, instead of the middle of it.

Since we've got that Kiva Friends Lender Profile now, we should also explore other affiliate programs that we can run alongside Amazon to generate funds for loans on the Kiva Friends group account. The Second Life stuff will probably be plugged in soon, for starters.

Also, any other interesting ideas for raising capital will be considered. Feel free to make suggestions as this is a group effort. Lets see how this goes... Smiley

Way to go Joe!  Grin

I second Diane's motion to get a Kiva-Novica hook-up going.  Since Ben doesn't seem to want to stop sleeping altogether and do everything all the time, it seems a good way to get the ball rolling down that lane would be for Kiva Friends to become a Novica affiliateCheesy  It's not Kiva entrepreneurs selling their wares online there (yet), but it's still another way to support them by shopping!  Tongue

p.s. I didn't notice this new group listed at Kivapedia yet!   Angry Wink

Oooh I see a TON of possibilities for group lending and affiliate fundraising! Great job guys. Joe- how about adding a paypal button here? You guys can take in small donations along with the affiliate stuff to fill the kettle and fund loans on the new Kiva Friends group. There are a lot of people here on KF- Imagine how many more loans we all could have a hand in funding as a group if we kicked in a couple dollars when available!

Thanks guys. I went ahead and signed us up for Novica. Some neat stuff on that site! I'll probably use it myself. It looks like they have an approval process for affiliates, so it'll take a few days. I was reminded yesterday by Anushka that Kiva is too understaffed to take advantage of every great idea that comes along. Hopefully all of us here can help out in that department. Smiley

Henry: Nice job with the IGIVE site! I just saw the other thread about it and like the variety of shops they have on there. I also live at Home Depot and Lowe's, so it'll be fun to do some online shopping there.

Samantha: Interesting idea. Others have suggested we do a Gumball Capital type of thing here, were people (who find lending $25 at a time to be too expensive) contribute tiny amounts to a group. The only thing that would suck about it is we wouldn't qualify for the free processing. So they'll be siphoning off a little off every donation, no matter how small. Might still be doable though.

Richard: I will correct the horrible oversight of the new group not being on Kivapedia immediatelyShocked   Cheesy

Glad to see the donation to Kiva friends is a good percentage.  It will make me look to buy on line.

Not sure what the NOVICA donation percentage is through Amazon.com. When you shop via IGIVE mall  they donate 12% of the purchase amount direct to KIVALoans - no rules apply.

Remember 1st time Igive.com shoppers get and extra $5.00 bonus added to the account!!!

just repeat after me!::    www.igive.com/kivaloans makes loans to buy goats!  whenever I shop online through Igive, I buy goats!   Wink

Joe, are you able to tell what percent Novica will give via Amazon.com?

p.s. for my fun competition I'm gonna win!  however, in the end I think we all agree the money ends up in KIVA.  only difference is, we as a group decide how it's loaned, or use it as a prize, or whatever we end up doing with it.  For IGIVE Money's - All members of IGIVE.com supporting KIVALoans will get a 'share vote'.

I noticed you beat me to it, Richard. As usual  Tongue Thanks again for all the work you do on the wiki Smiley

So Novica is already part of the IGIVE selection of stores? If so, then maybe it's better to go that route with them. I signed us up for the direct affiliate program on their site, which isn't associated with Amazon as far as I know. Novica might be a 3rd party merchant on Amazon but I haven't checked.

Okay, here's a new game!

How many different ways can you shop at NOVICA?!

1. NOVICA web site
2. NOVICA at Amazon
3. NOVICA at eBay
4. NOVICA at iGive - Kiva Loans (12% donation)

I'm guessing the list goes on... and on...  Shocked  Grin
