I do most of my online shopping at Amazon, but haven't been collecting credits because it was always easier to click on www.amazon.com than to search for the KivaFriends link. Now I've copied the link into the address box, so hopefully it will show up on my pull-down lists of recently visited sites.

Eli, what food items do you buy from Amazon?

Claus-Peter, I don't read German, but on the Amazon German website, if you look on the left-hand column, there is something about a Partner Programm that may be what you're looking for. If not, check out the other possibilities in that column.

As I understand it, you don't have to actually put the link in your webiste, just use it to access Amazon.

Claus-Peter,

it's been discussed somewhere else (boy, I'm really losing oversight here...): There is a German lender group that has set up a Kiva account. It's an "e.V." and they sit in Karlsruhe. If you order through them, they will use the money for Kiva loans (at least parts of it...). They're here: http://www.clever-spenden.de/

Greetings

Hey Sherri. Sadly, the Amazon links above only work in the US. An affiliate program for Canada would need to be setup separately (you interested? Wink )  I believe someone was going to set one up for the UK version of Amazon, but I'm not sure if that went through yet.

Speaking of Amazon, I'll be updating that other thread soon. There's about $150 in the pot from the last few months ready to be sent out, plus some paid back loans as well. Also 5 new loans were funded earlier this month that haven't been posted yet.

Today Joe asked me if I would help pick some loans for the Amazon shopping affiliate.

How fun to get to help choose a few loans.  Thumbs Up

This is what I picked and why:

To honor People Believer's loan request, and because it is another touching story:
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=47619&_tpos=1&_tpg=1

In honor of Jill and sharing the book Three Cups of Tea with all her KF:

To honor Sherri and Colette, with farming and Tajikistan:

Then in honor of Joe, for being the man with keeping all the nuts and bolts of Kiva Friends together, the closest I could find to represent him was a hardware store.  Of course this is also in honor of our moderators, Diane and Henry:

Thanks Joe, that was fun!   Cheesy

For those of you new to Kiva Friends, I thought I'd post a little encouraging word for using the Kiva Friends Amazon link for any Amazon orders.  It is a great way to help Joe and Kiva Friends fund some Kiva loans!

http://www.amazon.com/?&tag=kivafrie-20

And for those of you new and old to Kiva Friends who may not yet be aware, Amazon also sells food items!  So your groceries can help fund a Kiva loan!  If you have a food allergy, Amazon stocks many specialty items, especially gluten free foods.

There is a new feature that was added by Amazon in December, where you can 'subscribe' to an item.  A subscription order just means that they send out something you order on a regular basis, from once a month to once every six months.  You can delay those subscriptions as needed, or have them sent early, or cancel them at any time.  It is really a GREAT feature!  And you get an extra 15% discount for any subscription orders.  Amazon notifies you a week in advance of your subscription item being shipped, so you always know (and control) when it will arrive at your doorstep.  With the already decreased price of products on Amazon, with the added discount, it truly is a deal that is tough to pass up.

Things that I order regularly are: organic olive oil, gluten free items (Mi-Del Animal Crackers & ginger snaps, Calbee Salad Snapea Crisps, Mesa Sunrise Cereals, Gluten Free Pantry Pancake Mix & Brownie Mix), Seventh Generation items of all kinds (TP, laundry detergent, dishwashing soap), Corn Chips, Salsa, and etc.  Amazon is adding new products regularly, and they often have sales, so it pays to check regularly.

Anytime Amazon has not carried an item that I've been interested in ordering, I've written to them and within a week or two the item is available.  Never has a request been denied!  So if there is something you don't see, just make a suggestion.  Sometimes they are out of stock for an item and within a few days of a request it is restocked.  They are quite amazing in that department.

My only dismay with Amazon is how they have their foods organized for a search.  I don't understand how they have it set up, but sometimes you can't find something you know is there.  So don't give up with just one search, look under both 'gourmet' and 'grocery' with multiple combinations of words, or use a link to a brand if you don't see the exact item you desire.

Oh, did you know that Amazon also sells books?   Laugh

So go shopping everyone!

EDIT:  One time a case of cereal arrived all smunched (thank you DHL Shipping) and Amazon told me to keep the case and that they'd send another one.  So I got two cases of cereal for the price of one!

2ND EDIT:  Now there is a shopping affiliate link for Amazon Canada:  http://www.amazon.ca/?&tag=kivacanada-20

Do you have to add Kiva as your non-profit of choice or does everything purchased through Amazon help fund Kiva?

You have to use this particular link each time you shop at Amazon to have KivaFriends receive the credit:

EDIT:  Or when shopping on Amazon Canada:  http://www.amazon.ca/?&tag=kivacanada-20
