Annet is a 35-year-old single mother living in her own house in Fort Portal, Uganda. After separating from her husband, she decided to venture into retail shopping [shop-keeping, I would say] to help her support her child. She started as a farmer and later saved to set up a shop, which has been profitable despite the current inflation rate in the country. Her desire is to become a wholesale trader. Annet needs the loan to buy cooking oil, sugar and soap to sell.

I love the outfits in this picture.  I thought it looked more like the day the baby was being baptized, rather than visiting with a loan officer!  I am sad for the baby, who is so very young and already lives apart from her father.

Cultivating rice is part of 31-year-old Ou Sreyneang’s daily routine. Her husband, Sim Mari, is a blacksmith. He is good at making doors and windows. He usually earns an average of US$15 each day. Most of the income for her whole family relies on her husband’s business.

In order to better satisfy the needs of the customers, Ou Sreyneang is seeking a US$ 1200 loan for her husband to buy bigger amounts of iron in order to produce doors and windows to sell.

Mildred is 32 years old, married, and has two young children. She and her husband live together [in Tecpan, Guatemala]. Mildred says she sells cosmetics and thanks God because she has done well in her business that has grown considerably. Now she needs a loan to buy cosmetics since this season is when she sells the most.

Doña Marlin sells lingerie and casual clothing from a shop in her home near the local market. She thanks God and FAPE for the support given to her through loans that have helped to improve her business. Marlin is requesting a loan to buy casual clothing for children, men, and women.

I could be mistaken, but I think there is a baby almost present in this picture.   Smiley

Leonardo is a family man of 32 years of age who lives with his wife and children in his parents' home where they have only electric and water service. His home is located in the district of Tumán, 15 minutes away from the province of Chiclayo. The inhabitants of this district work growing sugar cane to be later processed and turned into sugar for consumption.

Leonardo earns a living driving his moto-taxi (public transportation which is used on short runs with a maximum occupancy of three persons), carrying people living in his district from one place to another. However he also has his own regular customers who even hire him to carry their children to the various educational centers in the region. Another source of money is through the sale of poultry which he raises at home.

He has requested a loan from Edpyme Alternativa in order to do maintenance on his moto-taxi, since he uses it every day, mornings and afternoons, and must replace some parts, which will allow him to guarantee better service and, in the long run, better income.

The member is Vilma, 38. She has a spouse and two children who are 6 years and two months old, respectively. She works independently selling shoes and sandals via catalogue to various private and public institutions. She drops off the catalogues and two days later returns to take orders which she places with her firm. Two weeks later her orders are delivered and she takes them to her various customers and collects payment for them two weeks after that. She is asking for a loan to invest as capital in her business.

Kuljan Sakimbaeva is the leader of this group. She is 52 and unfortunately, she is a widow. She brings up two sons and a daughter. The daughter is married and lives separately with her family. The first son works in construction and the second studies at school. Four years ago, with the initial investment of 5000 soms, Kuljan opened a kiosk and started to sell drinks, ice cream and cigarettes. In this way, she earns 6000 soms per month. With money received from the loan, she wants to build a shed near the kiosk and purchase more goods for sale.

Benkadi Group is comprised of widows and married women who are, on average, 37 years old with 2 children, and live in traditional extended households in the city of Barouéli, in the Barouéli prefecture in the Ségou Region (the fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali).  They know each other through familial, neighbourhood, and friend connections. They sell fabric, mirroirs, tiéké (a Malian food dish), and henna powder.

The women of the Benkadi group are on their first solidarity (group) loan.
Dalla Diawara, the president of the group, hopes to supply herself with fabric from the wholesalers at the grand markets in Bamako and Burkina Faso. She sells clothing at her house, at the Barouéli market, and at the surrounding markets, in cash and on credit, to a clientele composed of women and men.  She foresees realizing a monthly profit of 100,000 FCFA throughout the loan cycle, and will use this profit to reimburse the loan and pay for various social ceremonies and family expenses, with the remainder being reinvested in her business activity.

This is 41-year-old Baby. She is married and has three children, ages 19, 16, and 10. She has one additional dependent, who she adopted. In 2008, Baby established her beverage and provision business. She began her business because she dropped out of school. Working 7 days a week and 10 hours a day, she earns about 1,200,000 Sierra Leonean leones (SLL) every month from this business. She would like a loan in the amount of 5,000,000 SLL. Baby requires a loan in order to buy more Guinness, stout, soft drinks, and Carlsberg. She hopes that this loan will enable her to increase her monthly profits by approximately 300,000 SLL. She thanks you for your support.

Marcelo is a long-standing client of our institution who has worked through two loan cycles, demonstrating punctuality and responsibility in making his payments.

Marcelo is a taxi driver who owns a vehicle that runs on gasoline. He is requesting this loan to convert his vehicle to run on natural gas. This conversion would increase his profits and reduce his expenses. Marcelo gets up very early to work in his vehicle since he has young children. He leaves the children the care of his wife. Marcelo's wish is to be able to buy his own home so that he can offer his family a more comfortable life. He is a very hard-working person and is grateful to the institution for the support they have offered him.

In the photo, Marcelo is accompanied by his wife.

Eliana is a member of the “Emprendedoras” communal bank. She’s 20 years old and a single mother of a one-year-old daughter. She sells clothes for women, men and children. She fills orders from friends and family members. On Sundays she goes to the Huanta farmers market and thank God is doing well. The loan will be used to buy clothes to stock her business.

Eliana has been in FINCA Perú for two years. She likes her communal bank meetings because of the loan terms she gets and because of the training she receives; they teach her how to work and value herself as a woman. Her dream is to be able to open a big clothing store.
