New countries are always snatched up very quickly!  KF almost had wars over Mongolian loans.  Some KF members would hold pieces of Mongolian loans to drop to other KF members.  It didn't always work as so many people would be waiting in case something dropped out of a basket.  After 3 or 4 months, everyone seemed to get enough.  Mongolian loans started to linger.  It will happen with other new countries as well.

You can also let Kiva auto loan in new countries, but you might get a business type that you aren't keen on.  (A vegetarian might get a gory animal carcass picture, for example.)  If you run kivalens on your portfolio, you can find countries that you aren't currently participating in.

With autolending, I am also a bit afraid of getting a lot / several new loans to a new field partner.

When currency risk loans came to Kiva, we here at KF pushed for an alert of some kind when you put those loans into your basket.  Kiva gave it to us, and it was good (of a kind.)

However...in the last few weeks, there is no longer an alert on the basket page when I've selected loans with currency risk.  Was this deliberately removed?  Is it a bug?  I feel very strongly that lenders, particularly new lenders, should have clear warning about this.

put it back!    Pissy   Cheesy

Nonny

P.S. I am using IE 7 when I see no alert.

Assuming people can , read i think its ok with not getting extra warnings.
But i still strongly support a possibility to search for non currency loans when lending and autolending.

With autolending, I am also a bit afraid of getting a lot / several new loans to a new field partner.

The only way I know to limit this is to spend down all but a small amount, and then switch away from Autolend prior to repayment day.  If you have a lot of loans to field partners which are in arrears, including those which have been billed but won't be late until the 1st of the upcoming month, you still could end up with a bunch of money hitting the account and being lent automatically.

We are in day four after repayment and already down more than 800 loans NET.  There are 13 days after today.  We could well end up wishing for any loans at all!

With new marketing on Opera, and Christmas and giftcards, i also think there might be to few loans.

Somewhat exciting (for me, at least)... I just crossed the 1,000 post marker on KivaFriends!  My first post was May 22, 2010... so that's a little over two and a half posts a day for the past year or so. :-)

Wow John!  Shocked  Not sure if one should say "congratulations!" or offer one's condolences!   Cheesy

In any case, a BIG "thank you" is in order to you, John (as a HUMAN BEING), for helping turn things around 360 plus degrees!   Thumbs Up

Congrats, John - All in just over a year.  And all erudite and clearly-written, to be sure!  Thanks for your many contributions to the forum.
