Hello, everyone!

I'm Jessica, currently earning a Master's degree at Oxford University. I'm writing a thesis on Kiva.org and would love to have your participation in a survey about lender motivations on Kiva. Here's a link to an article about me: http://bit.ly/b5QA83.

This is a great community and I'm glad to have the opportunity to meet everyone here and learn more about how and why people lend on Kiva. It's a fascinating example of international cooperation and a great way to make a difference.

I'm a Kiva lender myself, and a longtime fan. I'm interested in learning more about why and how people choose to lend on Kiva (and I need a sample size of greater than one!)

If you would like to participate in the survey, please click this link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/32JPKNJ. If you have any questions, or would like to be interviewed, please email me at kivathesis@gmail.com.

Hello Jessica, and  Welcome to Kiva Friends!

I have a couple of questions about your survey if you do not mind.  On the final page of the survey you say:

Quote
The results of this survey will be used anonymously in a Masters thesis at Oxford University.

Yet, you are asking for Kiva userid's and email addresses on the first page on a voluntary basis.  I would be interested to know who will have access to the lender specific data you are collecting from those who choose to disclose their Kiva lender id?  What will happen to the data once you have completed your thesis?

Can I suggest that you may wish to move this statement - and any additional explanation you might provide about data security - to the first page so that individuals can make an informed decision as to whether they wish to disclose their Kiva lender id to you?

Again, welcome and good luck with your thesis!

I had trouble with question #3.  It is supposed to be the same format as question #2, pick only your top five and rank them.  In question #3 it was not unchecking other choices for the same number, so I assumed I should rank every entry as 1-5 and then the error received said that I needed to answer the question.    No

Once I picked only five entries and ranked them from 1 to 5 it did process correctly.

Kerry, happy to answer your questions.

If respondents feel comfortable with giving the lender ID, that allows me to cross-reference their answers to questions like "what are your primary motivations for being on Kiva?" with how many total loans they've made, when they joined the site, etc. Since Kiva has all of that information, I didn't want to ask for it again. I am the only person who will have access to it, and I will delete it as soon as I have completed my thesis (this summer). Good questions -- let me know if there is anything else I can answer.

Dave,

Thanks for posting -- I figured out the problem! I have now restricted answers to just one per row/column, and it should work now. Thanks for letting me know so that I can fix this problem for all who come after you... and sorry for the inconvenience.
