Through the button below, you can help support this forum, along with anything else we come up with (like Kivapedia and other neat ideas on the to-do list), and Kiva businesses by making a small donation. Minimum donation is $1.00. No pressure on using it. Toss something into the jar if you can, don't worry about it if you can't or prefer not to. Donations go to: - Hosting services - As this forum and the other projects like Kivapedia.org continue to grow, more bandwith is needed to handle the traffic so things don't slow to a crawl when the server gets busy. I'm also paying extra now for remote backup services (so we don't need to start from scratch if, Lord forbid, the server ever crashes and/or loses data).
- Loans on Kiva - After hosting service bills, the rest goes into loans on the Kiva Friends group account, which also includes loans funded from the affiliate shops and Second Life stuff we've got our hands into. See the new http://www.kiva.org/lender/kivafriends page on Kiva to check out our group loans if you'd like to monitor it. We've got
two three loans going so far. Hopefully that page will have a ton of happy faces by the end of 2007.
Since we don't qualify as a non-profit (even though we're technically helping to support and promote a non-profit), PayPal will take their cut out of any donation made through our link. That doesn't bother me though, as they do us all a great service by providing Kiva those free transactions. Anyway, thanks again for the support, everyone. It's great to see so many people using this place for productive discussions about Kiva. It's personally inspiring for me, which is why I fiddle with the forum code a lot (sorry about those occasional errors!) to make it even more useful, and gladly fund additional ideas like the Kivapedia Wiki. More neat things coming soon.

Yeah there were a few server issues this afternoon, sorry about that. I'll probably have to upgrade soon. A lot of people think I physically work at Kiva. I wish. If I lived anywhere near San Francisco, I'd probably be there every day doing something. But I'm just a volunteer on the other side of the country, donating time and support in the form of web sites, programming and space on my server to the cause. Couldn't just leave it at lending I suppose Now this forum, and anything else we come up with, is approved by Kiva, which is deeply appreciated. Kate (who does the graphics at Kiva) made the logo for us so it would match their font. I also run the official Kiva Myspace page, which was started by someone else that didn't have the time to do it anymore. I was asked and gladly accepted. The ability to bug nearly 7000 people about Kiva on a regular basis and rope in newbies? Yes please. As a refresher to those that don't know, five months ago on the Kiva Yahoo mailing list, Julia basically said "someone should start like a 'Friends of Kiva' web site where we can talk about Kiva" and I said "hey, I can do that... give me a couple days." 3 days later KivaFriends was placed into existance. (what other place did I leave? )

Don't you love it when people suggest things for other people to do? Thanks again Joe for all your work on this. It has been quite useful, and there does seem to be many people enjoying it.

In absolute agreement with Julia: three thumbs up for Joe!!! I love this page, and I enjoy the community so much...and look how easy we can bring change: I'm a proud member of the IGIVE group, born here a couple of weeks ago and already 4 loans strong! Without this site? Impossible! Thanks Joe.

Thanks, Joe, for all your great work. I was thinking a "Help" or "How to" or "Definition" or "Basics" page would be good for people like me who are computer inexperienced. For example: How do you "pin" or "lock" something? What do the icons mean? That sort of thing. Again, thank you for the site and your work.

I just found this site while going through all the press clippings on the KIVA site. Since learning about KIVA from the Oprah show, I've spend virtually every spare moment learning about KIVA & placed nine loans in the last 5 days. (I had to stop because there were no more applications for the moment.)
Thanks, Joe, for starting this site. It's a great idea & before checking this site further, I'll pause to put something in the tip jar.

To those of you who dropped anything in the tip jar above at any point to help with the hosting costs of this forum and Kiva Friends group loans, please PM me your mailing address. You've got a little Thank You gift coming your way It's not much, just some Kiva and Kiva Friends related promotional trinkets that I'm going to start giving out as "thanks" for donations here. They're currently being made and should start going out in a few weeks.

Hello everyone, Everyonce in awhile I've been hearing about Joe's Tip Jar, but I've procrastinated for various reasons including that I didn't know how to send money ( I know, I know I didn't say I had a great excuse!) With Christmas upon us, and the upcoming difficult financial times, I realized how much I would miss it if ever Joe couldn't manage to keep KivaFriends up-and-running. So now I found the post above and for those of you who didn't know it's easy to donate. You press on the little button and voila you're on Paypal! It's about time with all the space my picture threads take Evelyn
