Hello Everybody  Smiley ,

I am writing to the community because we are interested to know if there are the possibilities to become  an official Kiva borrower in Europe  (Huh?).

We are a no-profit organization called Cooperativa Garibaldi, our principle goal is to produce vegetables and other organic foods thanks to the work of young disabled people. At the moment we have a farm near the city center of Rome, which has been donated from the local administration.
We are searching alternative financial help, like microlending, to fund two projects:

- a restaurant and a social bad and breakfast..

Our web-site is under construction, but I can provide the old one which is : www.esperantia.org

Suggestions and comments are welcomed!!

Greetings from Rome!!

Hi Francesco

Italy isn't on the list of Kiva countries.  It might happen one day, but from what we know of Kiva's plans, I doubt it will happen in the foreseeable future.

Good luck with finding the finance you are looking for.

best wishes

Hi Francesco, Wave

Here's a recent article about the Microfinance Sector In Italy.  It includes a nice overview and links to other articles and contact information for various Italian organizations that might be able to help Cooperativa Garibaldi make some useful connections.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments.

I hope one day also in Europe and Italy we will be able to implement a p2p lending model like Kiva. I think it's really different from traditional microfinace, which is massively backed by institution...and more effective, for instance in term of interest rate and direct involvment!

However, now Kiva has implemented the platform also for small business in the U.S, I see positively this evolution!
