For several years I've been making small loans in Latin America but I'm disappointed at how little attention is given to Guatemala. As I'm now living in Antigua, I would like to be supporting my neighbors here and it's clear to me that many people could use help. The Nicaraguan partners seem to be very active and the lending options there good, but there appear to be none at all at the moment here in Guatemala. I just got an email entitled "Kiva Field Update - News from Guatemala" with a link I could click to "continue to lend" to Guatemala, but when I clicked the link there was only one possibility and that was a group in Mexico! Any comments or suggestions? Maybe I just don't know my way around on the site....

Jack, I'll be arriving in Antigua on Nov 9 on NCL's Dawn You can buy me a drink I'd also suggest using www.kivabank.org to hunt for loans where your searching for - it's such a cool tool! And it's Free

I count 33 Guatemalan loans funded so far in October. You can see these by changing the Status setting on the Lend page from Fundraising to Paying Back, searching for Guatemala, and sorting by Most Recent. Loans came available at various times throughout the month, so keep trying. It's always good to check on the first of the month, when the quotas are reset for the MFIs and many loans become available.
Guatemala shows up at present on a Mexico loan because one of the borrowers is named Guatemala and one of the lenders lists his address as in Guatemala. Using the Country map rather than the text search box would avoid this problem.

A new flood of loans will be hitting the kiva.org site on Nov. 1st, which is just a few days away. Check back then, there will almost surely be some from Guatemala available in that set.

You can set up Kivabank to email you when ever a new loan that matches your search criteria is added to Kiva. This will save you searching Kiva every day, or missing out on a particular loan type that you like.
