Hello all -
I wanted to share that I'll be starting to prepare to step down from my role at Kiva.
As part of that process, I've been working to figure out a transition plan for KivaFriends. I'll post some thoughts on how we might handle a transition soon. But first, I just wanted to thank everyone here.
You guys have really greatly educated me on Kiva, microfinance and microlending. I can't thank you enough! You've made my work so much easier and my day-to-day role much more rewarding. Many of you have been so warm and friendly to me: it means so, so much to me. I don't want to single anyone out, but you know who you are: the KivaFriends who have sent me private messages, Skyped with me, talked on the phone, IMd with me, left encouraging comments... you have welcomed me with open arms, and it's been honestly the best part of my day to hear from you!
Others of you have held me accountable, and I've appreciated it just as much. It's been wonderful getting highly detailed and specific feedback which I can share with the team. I checked a while ago, and in the past year I've filed something like 75 bug reports and feature requests! The neat thing is that they almost all came from threads on this forum, and many of them have been resolved: i.e. as a result, there are now many more squashed bugs and/or new features! Thank you.
I hope you guys can feel a difference. :-) KivaFriends is #1 in my Google Chrome list of most visited sites, and I often check it on my iPhone when I'm giving my 15 month old his bottle (shhh, don't tell his mom!). It's hard to believe it's been almost a year and 888 posts!
I have some other thoughts I'd like to share - perhaps in another post. But for now, I just wanted to share my update and thank you for everything! I'll post more later.
Best, John

John,
your work for the community as well as Kiva has been greatly appreciated. You brought a new sense of being taken seriously here to the forum. Your leaving is a loss to Kiva!
Wishing you all the best,
Oli

Wow, John... when I saw the subject title, you were the last person I thought it might be... It feels like you have always been here, listening every time I typed... Blessings to you for whatever step you are taking... I hope you're not saying goodbye to Kiva Friends or to Kiva... just taking a step forward in life -jan-

John, I will miss you. Your hard work and open ears have been a tremendous benefit to KivaFriends and, even more so, to Kiva itself. If Kiva management had even the smallest idea of how valuable you are to them, they would tackle you around the ankles and refuse to let you leave!
I guess now we'll both be:

I too am sorry to see you go John. I know you have been a great help to both Kivafriends and Kiva, and by extension to all the Kiva borrowers, lenders, and MFIs!

Boy, John, I go away from my email for 8 hours and look what I come back to. You've done good things for Kiva and Kiva Friends--but perhaps more importantly these good things helped even more lenders lend more funds in a responsible manner to the impoverished of the world. That benefit will go on and on. Hopefully, you are going TO something and not just FROM something. At the appropriate time we would really like to hear about it. In the meantime, John, all the best as you move ahead in your life. Dan

Wow, John, I know you'll be missed by Kiva. I hope we won't have to miss you too much here at KF - you can be one of the crowd with us, if you like! If that's not in your plans, then know that I will miss you on KF. I hope your next gig will be a satisfying one and an opportunity to learn and grow. Thank you for your patience, humor and graciousness here on KF. Amy
