Henry's already keeping track of the slow disbursal of loans to Samoa. Other than those, I've got a couple other slow loan disbursals and just thought we could keep track of our slowpokes here. Not complaining, just curious to see how long it actually takes for these loans to get started (since they were among my first).

Today's date: Jul 12, 2007.
Undisbursed loans in my portfolio:

Seadat Malikova, Azerbaijan
Food Market   $800.00    Jun 3, 2007   12 months term

Ndumi Mutua, Kenya
Tailoring   $775.00   Jun 7, 2007    8 months term

(I also have 3 more made late in June (Jun 29 & 30), so I'm not expecting them to be disbursed until August.)

Update:

Today's date: Jul 20, 2007.
Undisbursed loans in my portfolio:

Seadat Malikova, Agsu, Azerbaijan
Food Market   $800.00    Jun 3, 2007   12 months term

I have written to the MFI to ask if there are problems in Agsu or problems with this client, and have sent email to Kiva (myportfolio@kiva.org) to ask if they know of any reason why this would still not be disbursed nearly seven weeks after funding.  I hope it is just a matter of the local rep being on holiday or something.... Anyone know of any horrible doings in Agsu?

Yours Loans are older than mine but as of today July 26, I have 3 fully funded loans from July 6/ 2 with Esperanza and 1 with LAPO.  Is it the lenders?  All my others were disbursed within days, a week at most.  More troubling are the uncashed gift certificates.  I have 5 outstanding for the last 3 weeks.  I have emailed to remind them.

There was another thread that covered some issues in slow funding.  As I said there, my slowest loan to be disbursed took 55 days.  But that loan has turned out to be the one which has provided the best and most frequent journals-- so who knows.  Smiley

Seadat Malikova's loan (ref. above, funded Jun 3) was disbursed today (Jul 27).

That's 54 days, almost tied your record!

I participated on a loan to a woman in Cameroon on July 5th which is now (Sept 20th) on its 77th day in "raised" status.
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=11702

The loan is right there at the top of this list of raised loans sorted old-to-new, along with another from Cameroon to the same MFI, GHAPE

Should I be concerned?   I suppose I am to the extent that the $$ could 2 months ago have been in the hands of another entrepreneur actually putting it to some useful purpose, instead of sitting in Kiva's account for 11 weeks.  But I basically trust the Kiva staff to know what's up, so I suppose I won't bother them just yet with an email.

I have a loan that was not disbursed for 2+ months, and after I inquired, it was quickly disbursed; but since that time, I have had no repayments recorded for 4+ months.  The loan is here:  http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=3998.  So, I guess you have to be careful about what you wish for!  (I should inquire, once again, about this loan, however.)

Peter,

you could inquire with the MFI, if you don't want to bother Kiva...I guess I'd be in touch with them, if it was more than 2 months...

I've just gone through a few month of posts in this thread regarding slow disbursements & repayments.

Now, I understand that there can be legitimate reasons for delays in certain regions of the globe such as the lousy weather over the last few years, global unrest in many places etc. so there may be legitimate reasons for some of these delays, but to not let a lender know when a loan hasn't been disbursed in 2 or more month or no payment has been made in 4 month, than a process should be in place by Kiva or the respective IMF, or both, to let lenders know what's going on.

I understand that everybody is very busy and staff is limited but everybody should keep in mind that, to put it quite bluntly, without the lenders there would be no kiva or IMF's or entrepeneurs.

Jundee - that is an
Excellent Suggestion for KIVA:

Set up Notification System whenever -

MFI has unexpected delay in distributing a loan due to Region Unrest, Weather, Other
and

Borrower has not made a payment in Greater than 2 months - when not norm for the MFI, and if norm for the MFI, then an automatic delivery of MFI's general reason for delayed payment.

Henry,

put that in the thread "Suggestions to Kiva" or something like that - I like it and want to see it done!  Pissy

. . .
Well, I did after all bother them with an email about a week ago, but have only got the standard auto-response so far.
So, it's now day 88 or so since the loan was raised.   Huh?    Some of the short-term loans I made around the same time are 33% repaid...

I'm planning a special celebration for when it gets to 100 days in raised status

And here I was going to complain about it taking a couple of weeks.  Maybe they should have a policy about refunding the loan if it is not disbursed within a set time, like two months.

I have a loan to Cameroon that is over a month old but it was explained that this area was very difficult to access so I am not too concerned.  However this one: http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=16622, puzzles me because the partner has so many loans not yet distributed but continues to post for new loans.

I should have mentioned that the loan was funded on August 22nd.

Yes Steff, LAPO does appear to have plenty of raised loans (204 when I checked just now).  I don't think it's too great a cause for concern though, they're 5-star rated and I suppose that unlike some MFI's, they don't have cash reserves that they can use to disburse loans immediately.

Mouser - yes that would be a good idea, some kind of time limit on disbursal.  I'd settle for 10 weeks, which in this case would have meant I could have diverted the $$ to another borrower nearly 3 weeks ago.

the Cameroon 88-day (& counting) record-breaker mini-update:  I emailed the contact address given for the MFI earlier today, and just now noticed that in the few hours since then, the contact address has changed on Kiva's page for them.  So I've emailed to the new address asking again (very politely) if they can clarify..   edit: no it didn't change, I sent one email to the address stated in the body of the MFI write-up, and the other to the address stated over on the right where info is given in tabular form.  But it was at the end of a hard day is my excuse..

It really is becoming quite disappointing, the lack of any feedback.  I notice that one of my fellow lenders on the loan signed up to Kiva on July 5th when the loan was raised. and it is her only loan so far.  Not a lucky choice - especially given that it is an 18-month loan.

Peter, I sent a pointer to your post to the Kiva staff this morning and they replied to me that they are now looking into it.  I hope someone hears something soon!
