Mhamad is a 33-year-old man, married with no children, working as a car painter. He lives in Beirut and opened his shop in 1970. [Huh? I don't think so - if he is 33 y/o, he was not alive in 1970!]  He provides good quality work and his clients are mainly friends and neighbors.

This is Mhamad's seventh loan cycle. He reports that the previous loans helped him fulfill the needs of the shop. He is now requesting a loan from Al Majmoua in order to buy extra paint, tools and gas for his store. In the future, he hopes to expand his business.

Loan was listed April 1; needs $1675 in the next 5 days.

Mrs. Altantsetseg, 20 years old, lives with her husband and son Ariunerdene, 3, in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. Currently they live in Altantsetseg’s parents’ neighborhood in a ger, a traditional Mongolian nomadic tent. Altantsetseg’s husband has been selling animal feed in the Khangai, one of Ulaanbaatar’s outdoor animal markets, since 2009. Altantsetseg used to work with her husband at the market, but she recently graduated a training course as a beautician. She is planning to run a beauty care business and she has done some projections and planning. She found a proper place to rent and she now needs to buy some beauty care equipment from China to open the salon. Therefore, she is asking for a loan to buy her equipment and to open her beauty salon.

Hanifan lives in Faisalabad which is Pakistan’s third largest city and known for its textile industry. She is 54 years old and married to Ghulam Rasool. She has four children: two sons and two daughters. Her elder son works in a factory while the younger one stays at home. From the financial support of her elder son, Hanifan is able to send her two daughters to school.

Her husband operates a construction supply business while Hanifan makes gloves. She receives orders from different factories and shops and fills the orders to earn income for the family.

Hanifan has applied for a loan from Kiva partner Asasah to buy a new machine which will help her make gloves in larger quantity in a shorter period of time and complete the orders on time to generate good income.

She is a new loan user and this is her first loan application with Asasah.

Chan Kim, 58, is married and resides in Takeo province, Cambodia. Kim and her husband are farmers, earning an income of about $5 US per day.  Kim is requesting a loan of $800 to buy a new sewing machine for the children to expand their business.  (Kim is not available so her husband appeared in the photo instead of her.)

Inecio is 63 years old, he is married to 64 year old Delfina and they have 2 children. They live in a very well know neighborhood of the city of Itá, Paraguay.

He owns 2 trucks with which he runs a freight service in the city of Itá and the surrounding area. He has been doing this since he was 21 years old.  He is requesting a loan from Kiva to buy new tires for his vehicles as it is very important for his business that he maintains his trucks well - this is his work tool and enables him to continue his activity.

Trad is a 30-year-old married father with three kids. He lives with his family in Bekaa. Trad works designing and selling souvenirs [i.e., mementos of birth, weddings, and other life events] and, since 2007, he also sells chocolate, nuts, and coffee. Trad’s souvenirs are loved by his clients, most of whom are pregnant women, engaged or newly married couples, as well as people who enjoy nuts and coffee anytime.

Trad is requesting a loan from Al Majmoua for the first time. He will use his loan to purchase chocolates and buy necessary tools to make souvenirs, as well as purchase new souvenir models. He would also like to buy an espresso coffee machine to improve his customer service. In the future, Trad hopes to open another store.

  http://www.kiva.org/lend/284655

This seems a very worthwhile loan to me, though I think the word "souvenirs" gave people the impression that he was selling the kind of cheap stuff tourists buy.  The full loan description shows that he is designing and creating mementos of life events, that people value.  He wants the loan to buy tools and "models" to use as the basis for his designs, and an espresso machine since he has diversified into selling chocolates, nuts and coffee.  This loan is "red" and needs $650 in the next four days.

Hafez is a 28-year-old married man and the father of two children. He lives and works in Baalback [Bekaa Valley, Lebanon]. Hafez used to transport people to and from their homes or work. Since 2000 he had also taken tourists all over Lebanon.

Hafez wanted to settle down, so he thought of starting a new business which could help provide his family with a good income that would lead to a secure and healthy life. Hafez chose to open a car wash and maintenance garage specializing in oil changes.  Hafez has requested a loan from Al Majmoua to assist in establishing his new business.

This will be Hafez's third cycle as an Al Majmoua borrower, as he has proven to be a man with a good repayment history. All of his previous loans have positively affected his social and economic life.

http://www.kiva.org/lend/285921

[The loan description does not list specific machinery or tools, but since Hafez is establishing a brand new car wash and oil change business, I think it is pretty certain he will be buying some equipment with his Kiva loan.  This loan is red, and needs $1450 in the next four days!  17-month term, currency loss N/A, and 4-star Field Partner.]
