Hir from Israel Hir is a 55-year-old widow from the village of Naora in northern Israel. Hir and her husband had a successful animal raising business and she sold cheeses and dairy products. Her products had an excellent reputation and were purchased by clients from her village and the region. Unfortunately, after her husband passed away Hir sold the business with the animals. Last year she decided to begin selling her dairy products again but she had to purchase the milk from others. With the help of her family, Hir has reentered the business of raising sheep and making specialty cheeses, labane and yogurt. Hir needed this loan to purchase sheep and lambs, prepare her barn and purchase equipment. In the future, Hir wishes to further expand and purchase modern milking and cheese making equipment.

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009

Haroun is a 28-year-old married Lebanese man who lives with his wife. In order to return more income to his family, he decided to open his own sweet factory in 2004, after having twelve years of experience in this domain. He has built a good reputation in addition to the pleasant and delicious taste of his products. Today, Haroun is asking for a loan of $1000 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to purchase new supplies for his factory, such as an oven, refrigerator, and many other items. In the future, he plans to open his own pastry shop. The above capital equipment loan has less than 24 hours to go, and needs only $150 to be fully funded. http://www.kiva.org/lend/370108EDIT: Haroun's loan has been fully funded -- Yay!

Only 2 days left for this one -- an Ameen loan with pixellated face, 14-month loan term, no currency loss possible. Here goes: Chehadi is a 49-year-old Lebanese married man living with his wife and three children, who are still attending school. He has been working in renting tents and chairs on a freelance basis since 1997. He’s an expert in his job and well known to his customers. Today, he needs to borrow $1,100 from Kiva partner Ameen, to buy additional supplies of tents and chairs in order to respond to his customer’s demands and therefore increase his revenues. http://www.kiva.org/lend/370674

THIS LOAN has been fully funded now -- thanks to all who contributed loans! Chehadi is a 49-year-old Lebanese married man living with his wife and three children, who are still attending school. He has been working in renting tents and chairs on a freelance basis since 1997. He’s an expert in his job and well known to his customers. Today, he needs to borrow $1,100 from Kiva partner Ameen, to buy additional supplies of tents and chairs in order to respond to his customer’s demands and therefore increase his revenues. http://www.kiva.org/lend/370674This loan has only 14 hours till expiration, and still needs $250. He's currently on page 1 of the "popularity sort," so he stands a chance of avoiding expiration. Note that you will get 25% of the loan back with the first payment, which should arrive about March 15, and the rest comes in monthly installments ending about December 15 this year. NO currency risk possible. http://www.kiva.org/lend/370674

Edson works all day at a print shop in the city of La Paz. He needs the loan to buy a MAC-64 graphic impression machine in order to do extra jobs and get better income so he can help his family. This is the second time that he has worked with IMPRO, and it is the second time he has worked with KIVA. His loan history shows that Edson makes his payments on time. http://www.kiva.org/lend/389636
