Hi Cailin!

I'm starting this thread to discuss Kiva's new graphs at your request based on our conversation a couple weeks ago, prior to my recent vacation.

I'm wondering first if perhaps you could lay out how Kiva sees the new graphs being used.  i.e. what purpose were they designed to accomplish?  We have had discussions here in a variety of threads regarding the need for better portfolio management tools, but if the new graphs were intended for another purpose I would like to clear that up so we are all on the same page.

Thanks!

I guess I must have missed an important point.  Are the graphs for my portfolio still hidden and only available with the manual addition to the lender url (they appear to be)?

As a portfolio tool, all the graph choices are not much use for a larger portfolio.  I would like to see a table format with numbers as at least one option.  Graphs are nice, but only when they give you a visual answer-- and my ribbons and thin line pieces of pie give me no visual answer.

I guess this is all part of the confusion.  I'm not adding any manual link additions and there are, or were, three areas where graphs appear.

On my portfolio page, all I am seeing is the same pie charts we have had for some time now.
On the bottom on my public lender page I am seeing new graphing options and defaults.
On the team page, I am no longer seeing any graphs.  There used to be a team graph there, but it seems to be gone now.

One of the main points I want to make is that these three areas serve different purposes and therefore have different needs and issues.   I have been hoping for more functionality on my portfolio page to help in managing my portfolio, but that seems to be so far un-addressed.  Of course tools for my use in managing my portfolio should not be displayed on my public lender page...

The new graphs on my public lender page, though, are making public information which was, for all practical purposes, private information before.  It is true that anyone who wanted to could previously open up each of my loans and note various bits of information, but now that information is being presented in a way that makes my lending habits more apparent as they have changed over time, and that information, while public, used to be very difficult to work out for a particular user.  I'm not sure why that is being presented now by Kiva on our public lender pages.

Hmmm, I wonder if they are doing one of their "present each lender with a different site experience and see who complains the most" experiments again.   Undecided

I still see the same graphs on my public lender page as I see on my portfolio page (i.e. not the "super_graphs" ones), and I still see the "graph" links on the team pages I look at.

(Not that I look at those graphs very much - the ones for my portfolio are still pretty meaningless for me, even if I use the super-sized URL, and the ones on the team pages are incorrect so not worth worrying about [e.g. how many of the larger teams do you believe would never have had a decrease in membership?!?!?].)

Lenders who choose to keep their profiles anonymous have no public lender page and no access to the new graphs.

When I'm logged in and view my lender page with super_graphs=1, I see three drop-downs initialized to gender, stacked area, and count followed by several inches of white space but no graphs at all (IE 8 ). Is everyone else seeing graphs?

I'm sorry I mis-spoke earlier.  I do have super_graphs=1 on the end of my lender page url.  I am seeing the graphs in Chrome.

I am not adding anything on my teams link, and I'm not seeing the graphs that used to be there.   I do see a lot of white space on the team page below the lending team feedback link.

Hope I didn't add to the confusion!   Sad
