Hello,
I used to travel and volunteer in Laos and Cambodia this summer for almost two months.
During this time, especially when I stayed somewhere for volunteering I got in touch with young locals who were incredible open-minded and kindly but obviously had a lack of possibilities in terms of money when it comes to studying for example.
So I would like to help some of those people. Of course what I do not want to do is just transfer money to any strange bank account somwhere on the other side of the world.
But I thought isn't there the possibility to somehow give student loans to Kiva Field Partner who pass it on to certain people who I peronally met before? ... just to have someone local who supervises that the money I give to those people is used for the intended purpose?
To cut a long story short, - I just want to give a loan to young people I met personally but somehow make sure that the money is used for the intended purpose.

I appreciate any proposal!

Kiva has some loans which are for education.  Education Generation has donations for education where you can pick from students.  But there isn't something set up to designate folks of your choice.  It would also mean finding a financial institution which would vet the situation.  Yet, processing funds for education isn't in its charter most likely.  Meanwhile, you or someone would have to vet that the institution delivered the money in its entirety.

Good luck!

Another possibility is for the young people themselves to apply for microloans through Kiva partners; there are five active in Cambodia (AMK, KREDIT, HKL, VisionFund, and MAXIMA), none in Laos at the moment.  Some of these partners work in specific regions of the country, some lend to specific populations, some concentrate on specific occupations/sectors.  I did not see any that mention education loans, but it couldn't hurt for you to contact the partner organizations, most of which have email contact info in their profiles linked above, to ask if they'd be open to arranging an education loan or if they could facilitate a direct loan between you and a specific individual who applied to them.  If they agree, you would have to contact the individuals and have them take the next steps of applying.

There have been cases in the past where Kiva field partners assisted in further loans or funding for individuals, but always for people who had had Kiva loans first.

First of all thank you very much for your input!
I see there might be possibilities for Cambodia but no chance to get to do that in Laos, right?
