My name is Andrew Liss and I am a 7th grade social studies teacher.  My students have been using Kiva.org as a platform to learn about microfinance, poverty, and social justice for past 5 years.  We have loaned over $26,000 and enjoyed great interactions with the local press and community.  I am currently trying to win a grant that would help promote my Kiva-based program and could use your help. Please click on the attached link, read about my project, and vote for my classes!  Thanks!

We are still in the running to win this grant.  Voting is open until Jan. 5th.  If my students are to have a legitimate chance, I need anyone who reads this post to share the link.  Facebook, Twitter, etc. will be the key to victory.  Thanks again for those who voted!

I think Kiva Friends is a great way to ask for help I only question why someone becomes a member of a team so he can use the message board to ask for help.

Sorry to say I don't like that

Not just one team, but 100(+?) teams!

Is there a limit of 100 teams displaying on a lender page?  How many teams is Thiemo on?  lol
I see T J Middle School as a member of Smile Train, but looking at their lender page, I don't see Smile Train listed...  That's odd.  Maybe it's more than 100?

I am sorry if anyone is offended that I joined multiple teams since it was the only way I could reach most Kiva supporters.  The vast majority of comments from the teams were positive and encouraging and we will probably win the grant, so I think it was a worthwhile endeavor.   I remember lending before teams existed...everyone seemed to embrace the concept of pulling in the same direction. For those who supported my classes, thank you!   For those who are bummed out that I joined their team my apologies.

The winners for the grant were announced yesterday.  My classes received 1940 votes from all over the world and came in second place out of 661 projects!  The comments and support from the Kiva community became a lesson unto itself.  Thank you for helping us win one of the five grants being offered.  100% of the cash will be used to fund businesses through our Kiva program.
