We have received FIVE journal entries/updates on businesses the Fund has loaned to!  I have added "Journal entry received" banners and links at the bottom of each loan in the portfolio which has such journals and will continue this practice as we receive more.  Be sure to go back and read them: things are going well.

Florence Chepkemoi owns a private minivan known as a "matatu" which is a common means of transportation in Kenya.  Her matatu operates on the popular Kitengela-Nairobi route.  The engine on her matatu needs an overhaul to continue working, and she was unable to secure a loan from any banks, causing her so much stress she became ill.  At a friend's suggestion she turned to AN:K.  She cares for her own family, her deceased sister's son, and her elderly parents.  She is requesting $1,200 to purchase parts for her matatu overhaul.

All right, then!  Starting the new year off with a bang, I have spent the last couple hours editing this thread to include all the updates in Journals, loans, and disbursements for the past three weeks, and have updated the loan spreadsheet I started a while ago.

Mark Agwonah Memorial Fund loan spreadsheet

I shall probably at some point convert to using the excellent spreadsheet Christopher put together using the Export data directly from the Kiva account, at which time I shall replace my labor of love with something a bit less manual.

Please browse through this thread from time to time and read the Journal entries on the Fund's entrepreneurs (I add a link to each entry whenever there is a Journal update): things are going very well for most of our borrowers (with the exception of Simon Maragua who repaid his loan early after some difficult circumstances, and Mary Kahinga whose W.E.E.C. loan is still not disbursed since July 31, 2007), and I hope you're all following their progress.  Please consider commenting on Journal entries, to congratulate the borrowers and thank the MFI representatives who provide such wonderful updates!

Here's to a prosperous new year ahead.

Hello everyone -- please note that it became too great a manual task to keep track here of every loan made by the Fund, so to review the loans currently in the Fund portfolio, visit the Mark Agwonah Memorial Fund lender page:

http://www.kiva.org/lender/markagwonahmemoria3530

Thank you for your continued interest and support as we continue to honor Mark's legacy.
