I did it! A test run on giving myself a gift certificate. I now have $25 in my Kiva account to lend. Woohoo. More funds now that I know the process. I want to wait to lend for input from the miGIRLS family.  Cheesy

Thanks much for all the input, advice, opinion, and help!

On the subject of gift certificates...

If I give a gift certificate of $100, does the recipient have to lend it all at once to one borrower?  Or in one session, but to multiple borrowers?  I would like to allow my gift certificate recipients to fund more than one borrower, and have the flexibility to make their loans on separate days.  Do I need to purchase, say, 4 $25 certificates instead of one $100 certificate?

So far, I have been using $25 certificates since I don't know how flexible a larger certificate is, but it is a little clumsy (especially if I am emailing the info and have to type in those LONG numbers!).

Any insight is appreciated.

The gift certificate gives the recipeint Kiva credit, and Kiva credit can be divided over multiple loans.

So to answer your question simply, no, they don't.  Smiley

I'm absolutely thrilled to see Muhammad Yunus' concept being applied on a broader scale and the rest of US now have an opportunity to fight to end the battle against world poverty. I'm excited to be a part of this initiative and a member of this community of micro-lenders.

Hi Diane & Charlie & marabout32 -  Joined you on that Chad loan -  Sounds like an interesting fellow. And a PS to marabout32:  Be very careful about Kiva - it's highly addictive..... and the posts on this site stimulate the more vulnerable to make yet another loan on the spur of the moment!  Tongue

Kivafriends.org scrambled and respelled is "Risk And Forgive."  Of course, it also can be respelled "Asked For Virgin" and "Darer of Vikings" and even "Vinegar For Kids" but those are a lot less interesting.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Smack a man upside the head with a fish and you have his complete attention.
