Diane,

have you got any news on the funds? Did you send them to Kenya yet?

Just being curious,
Oli

I have sent email to Irene Kamau at Action Now: Kenya, whose bank we are using for the funds transfer, telling her we are ready to go and asking if all is ready on her end.  (I do not want the money to show up and get absorbed into other accounts, for instance.  I want her to be watching for it.)  I am waiting for her go-ahead to send the Fund, I hope it will be this week.

I have also asked if someone from AN:K might help Mama Mark to set up a savings account to keep her money safe until she has need of it.  I'll keep you all posted on what she says!

Thanks for asking, Carol.

There is  $ 800  in the Mama Mark Fund.

I am still waiting to hear from Irene Kamau before I make the transfer, but am ready to do so as soon as I hear from her.  Thanks to everyone, she will have a very significant nest egg on which to build a future.

I heard back from Irene Kamau today!

She tells me that she is working with Mama Mark to put together a budget of sorts for use and distribution of the money we are contributing.  Mama Mark has a bank account already, which Irene knows about.  She has asked Mama Mark to give some regular feedback on her plans for and use of the money, which Irene will report back to us over time.  So we can expect to get some "Journal Reports" of sorts as she benefits from our contributions.

I have initiated transfer of the funds from Paypal to my bank, and once they arrive will take the next step and start them moving to Kenya.  My bank officers are aware and ready to help make the transfer early next week.

I will keep everyone informed!  (And PS:  I have asked Irene explicitly again whether Mark's loan was forgiven.  I hope to hear from her on this point soon.  I have also asked how they are faring with the flooding in Kenya, if it is causing hardship for any of them.)
