Sorry if this has come up - I did a search and didn't find much.
I wonder if a parent category dedicated to getting kids involved might be good? A specific place to talk about ways to get kids, schools and thus communities aware and involved?

I started because I have asked my 10 yo niece to choose the next person I loan to, as a way to get her involved.
I too have been thinking about Kiva and schools. Many schools have 20 or so students in a class - each child contributing $1 and the whole class discussing and deciding who to loan to could have so many valuable lessons!

just my thoughts...

Hi Cathi,

I agree there's not too much about getting kids involved here, but a lot of kids are involved.  The Schools section of the Kivapedia Groups pages is the largest one there.  TJ Middle School's teacher, lissteach, started Can you help Kiva grow in the public school system?.  I started a topic for recruiting college students, Seed Donations for New Group Lenders at Kiva, but it could be adapted for younger kids & their teachers.  I'm sure there are other topics around here too.  Smiley

Giving a KIVA gift card can be a good start to get kids--anyone--involved in KIVA.

Also, I am a Community Coordinator in central Florida for PAX-Program of Acadmic Exchange ( www.pax.org ).  Having foreign exchange students with host families in your community is a great way to sensitize people to the needs around the world and remind them of our many blessings!

There are also several lending teams for children that might be of interest for you, e.g. this one here:

http://www.kiva.org/team/kids_for_kiva

We loan because:
We are trying to learn about the world around us and how to be a part of making it the best place possible. As one of my students stated, "Kiva is the real thing, not just made up stuff in books." The kids are incredibly excited to make loans and they are empowered by the experience.

About us:
We are team of elementary students that is looking to for other students around the world to join our team. We want to show how much kids can make a difference in the world.
