I like used clothing sales because someone actually uses the excesses of our society.  I know that shipping the stuff takes oil, but maybe the volume of shipping gets balanced this way.  (Tropical fruits to America, clothing to the tropics?)

If I were a betting person,
I would bet that the answer that the Scotsman, Jeff gave for his
"I Loan Because"
was a thought that had crossed the minds of
and was a principal motivating reason for the involvement of
the majority of KivaFriends and Kiva Lenders, in general.

It is now three o'clock in the morning here.
Say good night, Jill.  Good night, Jill.

I'm hoping to let the rest of you finish the conversation on "The New Look and Function"

    Just came across the following:

http://www.kiva.org/lender/daryl9041

Besides the frog, which, of course, I loved,
I was especially interested in Daryl's "About Me,"
particularly his Popeye-ian "I Yam What I Yam --Deal with It!" parenthetical admission.

That's one of the things I love most about Kiva.
It takes, it calls out to and snags "All Kinds."
There is room for all of us, no matter which side of which fence we sit on.
We are all united, related both in our attraction to Kiva, and
in our wanting to extend a hand... and, hopefully, great encouragement...
to people who are complete strangers,
but who feel, in fact, like they are not at all complete strangers
on the other side of the world.

Feels like a good place to again say,
THANK YOU, KIVA

       Check out Dutch's "About Me."
http://www.kiva.org/lender/dutch7942

Based on the fact that he's here,
and that he's still making loans,
bodes happily for which way he's betting on Kiva.......

I guessed this guy fits in neatly, here: http://www.kiva.org/lender/k2225

I don't like his "name", but he sure writes something very true. And he mentions Jeffrey D. Sachs, whom I greatly admire.  Thumbs Up

Brand new Kiva Lenders', Tico and Mary's
     I Loan Because:
    http://www.kiva.org/lender/albertop

"Humanity’s greatest advances are not in its discoveries –
but in how those discoveries are applied to reduce inequity.
Whether through democracy, strong public education, quality health care, or broad economic opportunity –

reducing inequity is the highest human achievement."

                                                                                                 Bill Gates

Gee, I wonder where Kiva fits into all this....  (smile).

Look at these rockstars!

http://www.kiva.org/lender/theponywars

"We loan because:     we would want someone to loan to us if we were in the situation many of these people are in...like if we rocked so hard we blew an amp and couldn't afford a new one. A small loan could be the difference between rocking hard and not rocking at all."

"About me:     We rock so hard...like all the time. It is hard, but enjoyable. Rocking related accidents are relatively few and far between. All in all it affords a pretty nice lifestyle if you include the day jobs."

Great!

Kiva Lender: NYC Triathlon 08 Team 1

This is their I Loan Because:
"We are supporting one of our friends as he raises funds to be used in Kiva.
The whole thing sounds kooky to us,
but the gleam in the eye of our friend, when he speaks about Kiva,
tells us that we should support his efforts."

Check out the Team's  About Me, too.....  It's maybe even better than their I Loan Because.
http://www.kiva.org/lender/nyctri08

It's the spirit exemplified here that
keeps me being "a believer."

A Kiver-Believer?
A Kiva-Believa ?
