I’d forgotten all about this. It was only because I was going through some of my old Lender messages and because I’d posted about that orphan baby elephant sanctuary in the Animal thread, this morning, that Ken’s lender photo caught my eye and I re-read our correspondence. His was one of my very favorite of all “I loan because’s.”Because of that and because of the pic he’d posted, I wrote him one day. He’s a young lawyer from Virginia who has impeccable taste in books. His all-time favorite was Winnie the Pooh. The quote here comes from his second favorite book. How could you not like a guy whose favorite book of all time was Pooh and who has no self-consciousness about declaring it, even if he is a lawyer!

I Loan Because:
". . . when you've been walking in the wind for miles, and you suddenly go into somebody's house, and he says, 'Hallo, Pooh, you're just in time for a little smackerel of something,' and you are, then it's what I call a Friendly Day."I had thought that his lender photo might be of his son. Turns out that it was of Ken, himself, when he was just a sprout living at the time in Indonesia. He wrote me with a bit of a harrumph harrumph that his mom had chosen to snap a few pics rather than rescue him from the clutches of that clearly ferocious baby elephant.
Seemed like a very neat guy, at least, as much as you can tell from a couple of lender messages. I’d encourage you to play with them, lender messages, that is, every once in awhile. It’s a neat, super quick and easy way to just say “hey” to someone. And more, if you feel the inclination.
*I get to say that since I was a lawyer myself. A lawyer who has a book in her collection entitled, "
Lawyers and Other Reptiles," I might add.
