I am interested how and what will be the requirements to ask Kiva to include a country liked the Philippines.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi kinitoy,

and welcome to Kivafriends!

Countries are included if Kiva finds a Micro Finance Institution (MFI) that it wants to work with in that particular country. MFIs can apply with Kiva at the Field Partners page, right at the bottom of the page. In order to be selected they have to meet certain requirements, which are laid out on Kiva's Risk and Due Diligence page. Before I summarize it here, it might be best if you checked it out there.

I hope this was of some help to you!

Oli

Magandang umaga, Kinitoy! (No, I'm not a Filipina, but have taken Tagalog in order to be of more help to a medical mission).  I love the Philippines and the Philippine people Thumbs Up, and have mentioned several times on this site that I wish we could lend there.  I suspect that they will eventually do this, as, in the Kiva site (somewhere in the "About" section) they were looking for volunteer translators of Tagalog.  The problem is probably finding local microlenders who fulfill their requirements and show that lenders will ultimately be repaid.  If they've already found these microlenders then they have to get things ready for translations, get video cameras to the microlending group and see that the staff knows how to use them and how to carry out financial transactions by internet.
If you know of qualifying microlenders there, Kinitoy, please contact Kiva and suggest they look into it... and if you speak Tagalog (or any of the other languages spoken in the Philippines) consider signing on as a volunteer translator.
Whoops . Shocked I see that Oli has entered a post that tells you pretty much the same thing, so I don't have to send you to the link he suggests.  Anyway, WELCOMEParty  and keep on posting.

Many thanks to both of you and I just did volunteered to be a translator too in Tagalog, again thanks to glenda for the info.

Just a few days ago, I started browsing/ inquiring throught the 'net for Non-Gov't Organizations (NGO) based in the Philippines who are established & have the capabilities to be a field partner(s) with Kiva. So far I got one respondent but will be waiting for more in the coming days. I hope this inquiries can open up the possibility for the philippines to get involve too with Kiva. I'll keep it posted here with its progress. Thanks.

Hey, where's the photo? I'd like to see it, too!  Huh?

Jeri, great you signed up as translator and for getting involved. I'd love to see loans from the Phillippines...
