Clinton Global Initiative: Poverty AlleviationSession 5: " Filling the Financing Gap will focus on a potent opportunity to enable the world’s poor to generate wealth. Sustainable financing for development remains one of our greatest challenges, and this panel will zero in on how we can fill a critical gap – beyond micro-finance - and generate the capital and instruments needed to finance small- and medium-sized entrepreneurs." Friday, September 28 at 9:00 AM I wonder if they need any new members.

Wow, this will definitely send Kiva into the major leagues!!! The fact that Kiva is in President Clinton's book, is going to have a long term effect. Many people may not pick up on Kiva at first but as they read the book, they will then notice Kiva and hopefully start lending. The sales outside the United States will create another wave of new lenders. Also with Christmas coming there will be another surge in lenders. Assuming that the book is picked by a major book club or makes one of the best seller list then there should a steady stream of new lenders.
Also, with all of the publicity, there is a stamp of approval on Kiva. I remember reading about Kiva and thinking what is this? I was afraid that some how I would get ripped off. I read and reread every article before I made my first loan. I am very glad that I did. Many people trust the Today Show, Oprah, and President Clinton to investigate things before they endorse them. With these endorsements, many people will feel safer with lending their money with Kiva.

Well said, stubear, and I think you are right: this is a long-lasting stamp of approval for Kiva, and is truly a seminal event. I am so glad we're here to see it happen!

stubear,
you echo my feelings and my behaviour before signing up...for me (old European I am), it was the BBC piece that got me convinced. But with THIS kind of exposure, it ought to be even easier.

Not that it seems likely anymore, but if Kiva ever suffers from financial hardships I doubt a huge supporter like Bill Clinton would allow them to go under, such a supporter that he places them within his book. That alone helps solidify Kiva's place and role, even though the cause would have eventually brought Kiva there, but years from now. Clinton and Oprah endorsing you elevates your status much more quickly Id think.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.
My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.
