I just want to mention that I was remiss in not mentioning earlier that Yvonne Thoroughgood--one of the "stars" of the Today Show piece and a midwife in London--is registered as a Kiva Friend (ythoroughgood), although she has never posted here!  Her blog, though http://blog.myspace.com/ythoroughgood, is just remarkable, because she recounts her upbringing in Jamaica and her stints in India, volunteering as a midwife there.  Also check out her "diary" about her experiences in India http://www.midwifery-india.org/, because it will open your eyes (at least for someone like me).

Yvonne's lender page is here:  http://www.kiva.org/lender/yvonne4236

I first "noticed" Yvonne because we share some loans in common--although I would be hard-pressed to find them all now, given the current lender-page format--and I was thrilled to see her on the Today Show!

As a man, I was a little bothered at first about the lack of men in the Today Show piece.  However, I do agree that if the demographics of the show is mainly women then you need to target that demographic.  Since Oprah has a very strong women viewership, we may see the same focus on women.

I can accept this marketing approach since if it works then go for it.  At the end of the day, what is really important is that Kiva continues to grow and that people who need help receive a loan.

HUMMMMM.  I wonder what the lender ratio M/F is?  There do seem to be a lot of you caring males out there on the lender pages.

Should we (women) write in to one of the Talk Shows?Huh?  Today show/Oprah discriminates?  Maybe Sirus radio?  While I don't have it maybe Howard Stern could get the word out on Kiva... SOS
I think I am losing my mind.

Stubear,

Maybe someone figured Today and Oprah target women.  The Wall Street Journal...uhm, maybe less so.  Maybe they just want more women lenders as men have already been so generous...

 Smiley

Realistically though, it may come down to what footage came out and coming up with a theme with the available footage.  Besides, Clinton and Agassi were there to represent the men.

Colette, it is interesting that you mentioned the Wall Street Journal.  It was the article in the WSJ about Kiva that started me down the path with Kiva.  I did a lot of research after reading that article.  My wife has had to listen to me many a time talking about an WSJ article while we are stuck in Austin traffic.

I agree with what you are saying.  You do need to target your audience and I do agree that Clinton and Agassi do represent men who are involved.  They are very generous men with their support of charities.

Thank you

163 loans? From 2,100 lenders? Or do you mean fully funded loans?
