Now that Kiva has a strong presence at Change.org, more and more Kiva Friends are cross-pollinating at its other "Changes," "Nonprofits" and "Actions."

As examples of what's available, the Change.org Kiva page currently includes five Changes, the main one being...

  End Global Poverty.

  The Grameen Foundation is another microfinance nonprofit listed there.

  Make a Small Loan (through Kiva) is one of suggested ways to take action.

This topic can be used as a shared location for making note of other Changes, Nonprofits, and Actions listed at Chang.org.  In the highly unlikely event a Change or Nonprofit of interest to you isn't listed at Change.org, go ahead and add it.  The same goes for Actions, particularly "new" ones.

In the very likely event a "non-Kivaesque" Change.org Change, Nonprofit or Action isn't covered somewhere on these forums, go ahead and get the ball rolling here.

A friend of mine at Change.org has lupus.  It is a chronic inflamatory disease that can affect various parts of the body, especially the skin, joint, blood and kidneys.

October is Lupus Awareness Month!

"Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain. Normally the body's immune system makes proteins called antibodies, to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. These foreign materials are called antigens.

"In an autoimmune disorder like lupus, the immune system cannot tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against itself. These antibodies -- called "auto-antibodies" (auto means 'self') -- cause inflammation, pain and damage in various parts of the body. Inflammation is considered the primary feature of lupus."
