Okay, considering Kiva's "Big Announcement" and their appearance on the Oprah Show just happen to be on the same day... How much is Oprah going to donate to Kiva on the show?

Great question. When she puts her stamp on it and endorses something, only good things can result. I cant wait to see what happens with Kiva in the next few months.

Okay, I've been trying to wean myself from this website ...........and missed out on reading about the Today show and Oprah's show later on today. What was I thinking??? Now that I'm all caught up I promise to accept my Kiva addiction and continue to check in daily to KivaFriends! After all, there are worse addictions.

And the answer is... ? ? ? I watched the show and no money from Oprah announced! (Although she did say lots of her staff are Kiva Addicts!!!) (They must be of the "closet" subspecies variety.)

Maybe after she checks it out more herself she might make a future announcement publicly about supporting Kiva.

I donīt know if she made a big donation or not, but she certainly inspired a lot of people to donate.
I watch her show from Brazil, with a few weeks delay, and got encouraged to participate.
Can you imagine how many people decided to donate after watching her show? That makes a big difference!

Hello Tirza, welcome to Kiva Friends...its great to have you. Im not sure of the exact numbers, but Simba posted these a week or so back.
The Haul:
The Kexplosion
Today show: $97 k in money, 2,100 New Lenders, 213 loans
Oprah: $149 k, , 4,500 New Lenders, 154 loans
The Aftermath - day after
$164 k, , 4,000 New Lenders, 205 loans 9/5 - only 3 loans posted
The aftermath- day two
$55 k, , 1,700 new Lenders, 123 loans - they ran out of loans on either 9/6 or 9/7
The aftermath - day three
$ 24 K, , 1,200 new Lenders, 6 loans
100,000 lender mark reached on 9/4/07, and $11 M on 9/5/07. It took 14 days to get 10,000 new lenders and will take 15 days to raise $1 M. Pipeline went dry on 9/5/07
And keep in mind there are far from enough loans available for all the people still trying to lend. The intense interest will continue beyond what even Kiva might expect. On Matt's blog, the CEO who appeared on Oprah, he said President Clinton came to him after the show and asked Matt what he could do to help. So I think Kiva is pretty secure in its very young age. On behalf of everyone thanks for joining, and be sure to vote for the calender pics!

We are slowly but surely "recovering" from all this: Yesterday's stats: 744 new lenders (total stands now at 113,057) 82 loans funded (total loans funded: 17,062) $50,950 (total amount $11,429,160)
We are still running out of fundable loans every day. Not sure if this imbalance between loan requests and lenders willing to give money will go away in the near future, because of all the new lenders and at the same time there are also loans repaid and the "old" lenders want to use the money to fund new loans.

Ulli,
I totally agree that it will be awhile. There may be a surge again when they remove the one loan per day limit. There are people on their list (I heard the list is in the thousands) who may wait until they get an email. It would seem prudent to wait until there is an adequate supply before sending this email out. It can be hours or days after receiving an email that someone reads it or acts. Stockouts are still occuring, although it is fewer hours in a 24 hour period than a week ago.
