Wow....
Somebody was busy while I was gone.  Smiley
Some beautiful pictures, here.
I've got a few suggestions, some repeats.

Mostly In the Interests of Trying to Achieve and Maintain Some Kind of Organization,
     I'd propose:

-- That We Try to Keep This Thread "Limited to" Collecting and  Bouncing Around Ideas About the Calendar,
    Related to:
           a) Organization & Format,
           b) Number of Pics Per Month,  &
           c) Conversation about Theme(s) For Calendar or for Months within Calendar

Suggestions of Other Approaches to Having Calendars Made and Distributed
(In event that Cafe Press can't do it or can't do it with the quality we're hoping for).

KivaFriends or Guests with Special Expertise or Contacts Posting to Volunteer Their Services for Specific Aspects

-- That Someone with Poll-Taking Expertise Soon Take a Week-to-2 WeekLong-Poll to Figure Out
if the Majority Wants to Have Our First Kiva Calendar Be An Entrepreneurs' Best Smiles Calendar
    or Have No Such Restriction.

(Question That Could Be Posed:  Would you prefer our First Kiva Entrepreneurs' Calendar to Be Best Smiles, Yes or No?)

-- That We Continue Using the Best Smiles Thread for Any Picture Choices Anybody Wants to Offer,
If Your Picture Choice Contains a Great Smile

-- Before the Resolution, by Poll, of the Yes or No Great Smiles Only Decision,
   that
We Post Any Further Pictures Either on Existing Threads If They'll Fit on Same,
or That Each KF Offering a Choice Characterizes the Picture/s They Love as Belonging to a Particular Category
(as suggested before..... Ents with Kids,  Ents with Animals,  Ents at Work,  Super Close-Ups,  Your Choice)
and Start a New Thread, Naming It By Category, and Beginning It With Your Choice(s) For That Category

-- Also, When We Do Post Pictures -- in Whichever Thread -- I'd suggest  We Include the Entrepreneur's
NAME, COUNTRY, URL FOR HIS/HER LENDER PAGE,
either following or improving on the format I tried to start with in my new thread,

Other Entrepreneur Photos,
http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,987.0.html

(NOTE:
I thought that the breadth of that thread was fine for just having a fun place to look at pics when at the Forum,
but for the purpose of our trying to Categorize, and Eventually Select Photos for the Calendar,
I think it's too broad and too general to be very helpful to us in trying to Keep Track of, Choose and Organize the Pictures
).

     2 Quick Questions --

--      Is it just my computer, or do others of you have a bunch of horizontal white lines
going through a number of the pictures already posted in this thread?
(I had the same thing happen in one of my picture postings at my Other Entrepreneurs' Photos thread).

--      Am I more out of my mind than usual to ask what you think about "Starting With"/ Actually Doing
        2 Different Calendars instead of 1 --
One of them being Limited to Best Smiles, Only
The Other Being Able to Include Any Other Kind of Great Picture ?

EDIT:
I am very much hoping to hear from Kiva.org
and from Chris, KivaFriend at Cafe Press,
but, particularly as to the former (and, especially NOW),
you know how hit or miss that goes.....

ummm  no white lines Jill....  maybe ummm.....  breathe deep, calm down, and if that doesn't work, then dial 911.  ? Undecided

Let's get the biggest obstacle out of the way.   Can we legally use KIVA's Photo's?   Can we legally use KIVA's loan data regarding each photo?  Unless we are assuming KIVA will take the finished project to the printer.

I would suggest the following regarding the calendar:

1. The first one should aim to show the variety of projects and countries funded. That would mean only one photo from a country, each type of enterprise featured only once, and a split of female/male reflecting roughly the breakdown of loans.

2. Every photo must be of excellent quality, the quality one would fine in a professional photograph, even if it is not. Should not be hard, with all the photos available! And the original should be large enough to go in the calendar.

3. One photo per month! That is typical for a calendar, and should make it easier (except maybe for the decision of which one!)

4. We enlist a professional photo editor as a volunteer in aiding in the selection.

    No white lines, huh?
Guess it's time for my computer (and me) to go swimming in Splashdown's Duck Muck Pond.
(No, it does not have a name).

-- The Legal Question about Rights to Use the Photos, Rights to Use Kiva's info?
    Answer:  I don't know.  But....
I say we should only do this if Kiva.org OKs/Approves/Encourages (?) us to go forward with it.
After all, at least, my purpose in suggesting it was TO HELP KIVA
(both with the revenues... profits.. from the Calendar sales and with all the Advertising/Promotion inherent in the idea).
Since Kiva, clearly, has the "rights" to use the photos, I'm hoping, thinking,
especially if they give us a "Go,"
that the whole "rights thing" will be a non-issue.

-- Dottie's suggestions?
I agree about selecting only photos of "excellent quality."
The clarity, balanced lighting, balanced everything, I think,
will be like "obscenity" was to some Supreme Court Judge trying to identify it.
"I know it when I see it."

    Dottie's suggestions ##s 1, 3 & 4 --
Well, for me, they raise what is quickly becoming a Very Obvious Question:

With all these Great Idea People coming up with all these Great Ideas
What Kind of Mechanism/Strategy Can We Use for Making Decisions About the Suggestions,
Keeping the Decision-Making Fair (and Democratic?), but
Making Sure We Can Get The Decisions Actually Made?

Form a question and post a poll, issue by issue - go by consensus.

I agree with every point that Dottie made. I vote for focusing on one project=calendar and see if we can pull it of. If we can, we can become more ambitious next year. The nearest and dearest to our hearts seems to be the "Best Smiles" calendar.
We could set up a poll with about 25 pictures that fulfill the technical and aesthetically requirements and let people vote for a week or two.
