Jundee, Steve, thanks for this nice show you put on...it lightens my afternoon (after sitting in court hearing a criminal case on a double marriage)!

I have just tried to use the printer's template to layout the 28 pages - minus pictures and text. It automatically includes US holidays. The template runs over to January 2009. This would make it 14 images - cover + 13 months. Looking at the calendar grid I think we have an opportunity for some short text (50-60 words max) - perhaps quotes about Kiva, might it be nice to include I loan because... examples?? Please have a look at the attached pdf. EDIT - updated PDF in http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,988.msg9736.html#msg9736C

If you think you're too small to make a difference try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito, or give kiva.org a try.

If U.S. holidays are in a stock layout, I would just go with it. The fewer exceptions you have to make, the more likely things will work out okay on the short time frame. I do think the Kiva logo being sliced by the green line isn't elegant, but if that's a space thing to avoid overlapping images, so be it.

I noticed the kiva symbol off a bit too, if its possible to raise a bit higher than I think that looks better. Is there anything we can do about that Christopher? I do like the boxed calendar layout though. Looks really nice.
Im guessing then that we dont have the three open pages we planned on, just the back cover for the most part.
I like the idea about quotes...or we can use quotes from the media, such as oprah or bill clinton, nyt, newspapers, etc...but either way I think its a great idea to utilize that space if it presents itself well visually. Can also use the space for statistics or info about Kiva...guess we have some options there....but without the extra pages it does make this calendar much easier to complete. Sorry John, I know you looked forward to taking the lead on these pages.

Speaking of quotes, don't forget those Kiva Friends that get billing on Presidential websites!!! "I have more than I need, and there are many thousands of people all over the world who have far less than they need. I just want to equalize things a little before I die. It’s as simple as that." - Glenda D.

Thanks for the feedback, I was procrastinating over the line through the logo - and have now inserted a break so that the line does not extend through. It had been a remnant from a thicker line complementing the web page. I think I prefer this version.
I must have missed the discussion on 3 pages of text. Though there might be some options to include more info in some places.
One the back page I was working up a grid of images, of the photos used inside with name and web page. These could be made smaller and on 2 lines - so that the top line could be used for 4 or 5 short columns of text. Currently only have a dummy box of text with a Kiva Friends heading.
Ran into problems with the length of the URL for individual businesses - so have just kept a placeholder for an ID in brackets (just noticed font size is a bit haywire but will sort this). Not sure what to do about the URL as it is very long...
Had not applied correct master layout to the front cover - have done now. There is a column of text which could be a nice place to talk about kiva for 100 - 120 words.
I everyone probably got what I meant about quotes - but have included Glenda D's quote to show specifically what I meant.
The file is getting quite large so have reduced the pdf to front and back cover with Jan 08 example layout. PDF is attached.
Votes are still trickling in...

I like the new line layout (assuming the "org" won't be touching the line in the final). I also like the quote.

Never heard of the tiny URL option..worked really well...it might be our only option...we dont want 13 or more long URLs along the back, and we dont want them so small they cant be read
Chris in regards to the three pages of text, no one took into consideration the additional 2009 month of january...we knew it was a proper layout with 28 pages from front to back and thats how we arrived at 3 open pages...
Kiva logo looks great again Chris, good job...
Like the quotable area...definitely think we should use that for quotes or info of some sort, great addition
Ill reserve judgment on the cover until its layout is more developed...I think we have to emphasize style and layout on the cover more so than the inside of the calendar. Ive seen some really incredible calendar covers that Ive been looking at that we can definitely achieve...Christopher do you have creative options over how the cover appears, what goes where....can you work with a blank slate? Just curious about what our, or your potential is with the cover....if you have real creative control then some of us could even come up with some layouts and put them up for show until we get some real direction and idea of what the cover should be....or did you have other plans? I dont want to step on your toes here...wondering how much time is available to be spent on the cover.
