Here is a nice new promotion running currently on GlobalGiving - quantities are limited!

Donate $100 or more to these or any other projects on GlobalGiving and receive a free copy of Nick Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's new book Half the Sky!  Enter the promotion code "HALFTHESKY" when you check out.

Thumbs Up
In their book, the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalists expose the suffering of women throughout the developing world, and provide examples of how creating opportunities can transform lives.  GlobalGiving - one of the organizations Kristof and WuDunn offer up for "Do-It-Yourself Foreign Aid" - features a range of projects that help women fight oppression, poverty, disease, and abuse through education and opportunity.  Your contributions will help global project leaders create a better future for disadvantaged women and girls, their families, and their communities.

The next challenge has started on Global Giving!  Thumbs Up

----------------
The Give More - Get More Challenge
The Give More - Get More Challenge runs through December 1. Donate to your favorite projects - the more they raise, the more matching funds they can earn. Projects that raise the most money, or get the most donations, can win bonus funding, too!

From November 10 through December 1, the Give More – Get More Challenge offers matching funds for your donations – the more donations a project receives, the more matching money they can earn. Additional cash bonuses will be awarded to the top three projects.

$0 - $2,500 donations => 30% incremental match
$2,501 - $7,500 donations => 40% incremental match
> $7,501 donations => 50% incremental match

The three projects that raise the most money will receive additional bonuses of $5,000, $3,000, and $1,000. The same goes for the three projects with the greatest number of unique donations – they will also be awarded bounty funds of $5,000, $3,000, and $1,000. In the event that multiple projects competing in the Give More Get More Challenge are "tied" as far as number of unique donors, the project with the most funds raised will be considered the leader.
-------------------

The list of projects taking part is really long so I am sure you will find something you would like to support.  Smiley

Some of my personal favorites are:
Affordable Sanitary Pads for 1500 Ugandan Girls
Lotus Pedals - Help Cambodian Girls Get to School!
Learning Centers for Rural Afghan Women in Herat
Educate and empower girls in Anupshahar, India

Just a little reminder - the The Give More - Get More Challenge is running for another 7 days. As I had written above all donations made during this time to one of the projects included into the VERY long challenge list will be matched.

At the moment there are still about $200,000 that have not been used so far for matching and it would be just a pity to let them go unused.  Smiley

---------------------
In addition to the projects I had pointed out in my previous post, here are some more you might find interesting:

BRAC schools in Sudan for 175 poor children (a project of one of the MFIs Kiva is working with)
BRAC health care for 30,000 people in S. Sudan (dito)
Support Entrepreneurial Drive of Women in Ghana (microloan project in Ghana)
Microloans for 400 poor women in rural Uganda
Micro-credit for disadvantaged farmers in Laos
Help Empower 300 Women in Kosovo through Education (a project of Women for Women International)
Teach 4200 women in the Congo (DRC) basic literacy (dito)
Vital Job-Skills Training for 500 Afghan Women (dito)
PlayPumps: Bringing Water to Children in Africa
Abir's Garden: A Playground for Si'ir Girls School
---------------

And there many many more. Check it out!  Thumbs Up

I am not sure if this is a new feature on Global Giving, at least it was new to me when I found it yesterday.  Smiley If you follow this link here http://www.globalgiving.org/matching/ you will find a list of projects where generous sponsors have offered to match donations. So if you choose to help one of these projects your donations will have an even higher impact!

Free and Educate 300 Bonded Nepali Girls
Matching of donations: 100% (total funds available: $18,000)
This project rescues 300 young Nepali girls from bonded servitude and provides them with six years of education, which will enable them to graduate from high school.
Touched by the contrast between the lives of their own grandchildren and the impoverished children around the world, this couple hopes that their “Global Grandparents” initiative can help make a positive and sustained difference in the lives of children in Nepal.

This project seems to have been such a great success that they have already reached their funding goal of $105,000  Shocked. However, donating is still possible and the matching offer is still there so it might be still available for further funding.
----------

Secondary School for Mozambican Girls
Matching of donations: 100% (total funds available: $25,000)
This project give young girls in rural Mozambique scholarships for the 8th, 9th, and 10th grades, with after-school and social worker support, giving them a new opportunity: to gain economic freedom.
Inspired by her visit to this project earlier this year, an anonymous donor has generously provided matching funds to motivate others to give - and in doing so, altering the courses of these young girls’ lives. These scholarships not only provide girls with a secondary education, but also the tools to gain economic freedom.
------------------

Create a Safer World – Fight Terrorism Through Giving
Matching of donations: 100% (total funds available: $35,000)
Education, health care, and economic opportunity counter the influence of extremists in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries by weakening their base of community support. Help us build a world in which the appeal of lives lived in dignity, opportunity, and hope triumphs over the allure of extremism and its use of terrorist tactics.
The Safer World Fund encourages people to fight terrorism by addressing some of its root causes. Basic education, vocational training and health care open doors for impoverished people around the world, particularly women and children. The Safer World Fund is composed of projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

GlobalGiving.co.uk Project Challenge III is currently underway and ends on the 30th of April.  Projects that raise £1000 from 50 unique donors are then invited to stay on Global Giving to raise funds for their cause.

http://www.globalgiving.co.uk/leaderboards/project-challenge3.html

Looking at the list there are 3 projects that have raised the required £1000 but do not have the donors yet, so the smallest amount will help add another donor to their list.
Prepare 10 Russian Teenage Orphans for Adult Life.  They need 7 more donors.
Send a Tibetan girl in China to school for a year.  This needs 4 donors.
Grow plantains & support human rights in Cameroon!  This needs 12 donors.

Perhaps if any of these interest you, you could watch on Friday to see if they have met the donor threshhold.

Intel is currently generously matching all donations to select technology education projects on GlobalGiving. Double your impact and help kids learn!

http://www.globalgiving.org/leaderboards/technology-for-education/

There are currently 4 projects in the list you can support through this generous offer and there are still about $ 5,000 left to match. The projects include projects in Haiti, India, Egypt and a worldwide technology for education fund.
