We just put out a release on this new program to increase Kiva's support for Arabic, both on the site and through translation:

Cisco Funds New Program to Enable Kiva to Expand Microloans for Entrepreneurs to More Arabic-Speaking Countries in the Middle East and North Africa

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - January 25, 2011) - Meedan, a leading Arabic-English translation technology company announced today it is providing free Arabic translation for microloans on Kiva.org.
The move will help expand the reach of Kiva and its lenders directly into the heart of the Arabic-speaking world, extending a global community of micro-lenders to include thousands of Arabic-speaking aspiring entrepreneurs. Under the program funded by Cisco, Meedan will provide expert translation and strategic guidance to Kiva.

It's an exciting program, so thought I'd share here. :-)

yes Carien, I asked Google Translate to tell me the Arabic for "very good indeed", and it translated it back to English with the same meaning, so I was reasonably confident that I wasn't inadvertently saying something like "may a blight be upon all your watermelons"

Really, carien? I used to live in Saudi and in Turkey. Worked a deal with my employer to also provide me with Arabic lessons when I went. Some of my favorite memories.....
