Hello All,
I haven't been on KIVA for sometime now and wanted to know what key updates/changes has KIVA been through since 2010? I took a hiatus for school/travel and another spurring reasons I took a break was because of the micro-finance projects in the United States. Can anyone feel me in on what has been going on since? Thanks, Dono

Well..

If you have plenty of time, you could read back through the last 2 or 3 years of Kiva's blog updates, now handily collected all in one place at:
http://kivablog.kiva.org/

cheers

One more question,
I am wondering how exactly the KIVA bonuses work for inviting friends who join Kiva/join my team. How do I know and receive the $25 lending bonus for this? I noticed that I can just send people the weblink to my team but how does KIVA know that it was an invite on my part? Are the kiva bonuses instantaneous? I have read that there may be limited funds so does anyone know how best to approach this new thought?

Thanks,
Don

Well I don't work much on that stuff, but basically if you send someone to the /invitedby url, then the system marks that you are the person who invited them.
The url looks like this, say for me inviting a friend to join the "Flying Spaghetti Monster" team that I'm on: http://www.kiva.org/invitedto/fsm/by/penguinsforthewin

So if that user joined, then system knows that I (penguinsforthewin) invited the new person to join my favorite team (fsm)

Does that make sense?

How does the bonus work for the friend who joins? Does a new member get a $25 loan for free (a loan which is repaid to the sponsor rather than to the new member) before they make any loans with their own money? Or do they get the free loan after they have made their first loan?

The last time this applied to me, the new member could make their very first loan with the sponsor's money.  They only had to put in their own money if they wanted to make a 2d loan.  That was a few months ago - program could have changed.

As a Little Rock native, I highly support these loans! Congrats to Kiva for getting such a great set of borrowers and businesses in Arkansas.
